I've been wondering about this for a while and continue to notice a marked difference so I thought I'd see what you guys think.
I've been brewing my own kombucha for about a month and a half to 2 months now. I absolutely LOVE it, so in between batches or during bottling I still buy a few bottles of kombucha from the HFS. Is it just me, or is store bought no where near as strong as homemade? Drinking my homemade tea I get rather intense euphoria as compared to the bottled stuff. There's still an effect of course, but it seems only to be a fraction of the intensity.
If the store bought kombucha is pasteurized, would this reduce the effect?
Luckily I have big enough batches going now that I won't have to buy it - I just find the difference in strength interesting.

Mind sharing how you make it? I would love to make it at home. The store bought stuff does not even give me the "high" any longer.

Rawkin girl,
Good to see you finally got your own kombubucha culture and are enjoying it!
I just started some water kefir cultures that I really love as well and you might want to try. Makes for an amazing cream soda or sparkling breezers substitutes in the summer :)

There is a big difference in flavor and strength in homemade stuff. In fact I had a bottle of the store bought stuff left when my homemade is ready and I just couldn't stand it anymore. It tastes badly diluted in comparison. So I gave the store-bought bottle to my friend to finish up, saving the empty bottle of course.
I would rather go without than drink the store bought stuff again.

I've been brewing for years & theres nothing like homemade kombucha. Store bought kombucha is pasteurized and has anywhere from 10-20 grams of sugar. I've been drinking it for years & I still have the same invigorating effects as when I first started.
One of my batches went bad & I ordered another one from:
http://kombuchahealthdrink.com
It was $20 with free shipping & they had wonderful online support.
Happy brewing!

Thank you Teresa, i just order it.
I have always wonder how to make it. Here where we are, there is a raw food restaurant the brew it and sell in the store. They are located in the next town BUT i would rather make my own.
All the best

I'm about to order it. Is this euphoria from the caffeine effect ? Can you feel the caffeine effect?
What supplies do I need exactly - I read what to start to make the drink, but do I fill glass bottles and then start again. Do I keep using the same culture that will be mailed to me? And lastly, how do I add flavors you are all talking about? Oh, and how much to drink at a time and is it once a day?
Thank you.

How do you make raw kombucha? I know how to make normal kombucha it but it requires boiling the water and using white sugar. I cant seem to find a raw recipe anywhere.
