View Full Version : Raw Apple Cider Vinegar?

Since going raw, I cut out all vinegar completely but in the last 4 or 5 days I've been using ACV off and on in my salads because I was craving it. I'm having a hard time figuring out if my body is good with it or not. I think I'm still detoxing which makes it more difficult to know.
It's known for healing so many ailments however, in all the raw recipe books I've read, I've never seen it on any ingredient list. Yet there are other fermented foods widely mentioned and consumed.
What's been your experience with raw ACV? Do you use it?

It's used as an ingredient in Alissa's recipe book. I know it's in her Kim-Chi. It may be in other recipes of hers that I don't remember right now. I use it and have no negative reactions to it.

I am undecided whether to use it. Dr. Theodore Baroody calls it a "digestive aid." Says it increases the flow of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It is alkaline-forming, according to most sources, unlike processed white vinegar.

I have only tried it once and didn't like the taste or smell of it but maybe that was because it was a store brand? Maybe I should try a different one...

I suddenly developed what "I":D diagonised as a UTI last week, for some reason. I drank 2 TBLS of ACV mixed with water 2-3 times a day for a couple days. Cleared my symptoms. Now...was it the ACV or what  don't know? But I got to where I liked the taste, and FELT like it was helping.
I use Braggs ACV and DO like it.

I've never heard of a "store brand" of real apple cider vinegar. Did your store brand say "raw and unfiltered" and "with the mother" on the bottle? Two brands I'm familiar with are Bragg's and Spectrum which can be bought at health food stores. They can be bought at some regular grocery stores as well. I'm guessing you had apple cider flavored vinegar, not the real stuff. Which store brand was it?
It's not gonna taste great straight up. At least I don't think so, but I like it in Alissa's Kim-Chi and salad dressings.

I use it. I like the taste and it seems to help me lose weight for some reason.

I like to drink it in "vinny" a mixture of ACV (approx 1T to 8-12 oz of water), and raw honey or stevia. It makes me feel calm and energized after I drink it, but I don't know why. It was hard to get used to but now I love it.
I enjoy ACV on my salads. It helps a lot with digestion when needed -- like if I go to a raw food event that has a few courses and is heavier than what I eat on an average day.
It should look like there is sediment on the bottom if it has not been filtered, and sort of cloudy. If it looks like apple juice from concentrate, it might be worth looking into another brand. I get mine from the local organic grocer. They have several options, including Tree of Life and Braggs.

It's nice to know that you're all using it and don't have any problems with it. I use Bragg's as well and love it. Thank you all, so much for responding. :)

ACV is amazing stuff. I use it for arthritis and acne. It may not be raw (it's fermented) but Alissa uses it and I will continue to use it as well.

it's also good for indigestion, heart burn & acid reflux. it neutralizes the acid in your stomach.
i'd like to learn how to make MY OWN ACV!

Zaphirah - I use it like a toner on my face. It removes makeup too! :)

I assume you splash it on and rinse it off? (I'm make-up illiterate. I don't even know what toner is exactly and how one is supposed to use it.) You don't find it too drying or do you apply something else to counteract the dryness?

Z- a toner is an astringent - I put some on a cotton ball or tissue and wipe my face with it, get all the grime off and then rinse my face with water. Follow with moisturizer of choice. :)

ilovemangos -To answer your question I bought it from Superstore (a big name grocery store in Canada). I don't know anything else about it bc the label fell off but thanks to everyone's tips I will be trying a different company and looking for the "real acv" :P

I bought some Bragg's brand ACV at the healthfood store today after reading the posts on this thread. I needed some anyway as my other bottle is almost empty but it was no-name brand from Superstore, NOW I have the right stuff!

I just bought Bragg's ACV for the first time this week. I made the most amazing salad this week and used the ACV to make the best salad dressing on Friday.
2 tbsp Bragg's ACV
1 tbsp organic olive oil
1 tbsp raw honey
Sea Salt
I used a fork to mix it and the sea salt had disintegrated by the time I used it.
My salad consisted of romaine, cucumber slices and a whole avocado and tomato (the avocado and tomato I put in a seperate bowl and squeezed lemon juice over the avocado and tomoto to keep the avocado from browning and then the lemon juice and tomato wouldn't make the lettuce all wet). I also put some sunflower seeds and hemp seed on it. It was soo good and way better than the salad I made the day before which was too watery from the lemon juice, olive oil and oranges that made it all water (I had combined all in container for work but it was awful).

that sounds good MelanieC I will definitely try it.
Another use for it is as an underarm deodorant. I just put it in a small spray bottle and used it all last summer - worked great!
I also read on another forum that many women use it to rinse their hair with instead of conditioner but I haven't tried that yet.

Wow - this stuff has some serious uses. I may try some on a day I don't have to go out (the deoderant, lol) - I also want to try the conditioner - my hair is really dry without conditioner - interesting to see if it works. Also love the astringent idea.

I've been using Bragg's for a long time. It's great for you. I buy it by the gallon from the Vitamin Shop. They have a web site..think they are the cheapest. It's a good hair conditioner, all over skin tonic...mix it 1/2 with water, put in a spray bottle & keep in the shower. It smells at first but after it dries, no odor. No one ever comments on the smell from me. I can't drink it straight..too strong.
