Eat raw, and I guarantee you won't need a lap band!!!

I was being referred for a lap band, but I'm cancelling it now i'm going to go raw. I read about people not getting enough nutrients afterwards plus there's always a risk with surgery.

In my ER, seeing people come in after these procedures with malabsorption syndrome (many times irreversible), liver/pancreatic abnormalities, and other major health related issues-- is enough to convince me never to have it done!!

I'm not a nurse, but i see the same thing in our ER as Sugar Snap Pea. Plus, a friend who works in the ER had a lap band, he weighed 400 pounds, lost 200 of it, and has already regained 100 pounds back. Plus, he is a vegetarian (who eats cookies, chocolate, etc). I wouldn't do it, it's drastically changing your anatomy. Doctors don't know everything (and there's a LOT they don't know at all).

I actually just had the lapband done in March, and it's doing fine for me! My insurance paid for it 100% because I have PCOS, Insulin Resistance, and High Blood Pressure. They called them "Co-morbidities" ..ugh. Anyway, they made me get it because they said I need to start losing weight right away and because even with dieting, I was steadily gaining weight with no end in sight. My highest weight was 270, and since March I lost about 55 pounds and I cannot seem to lose anymore. I know it's supposed to be slow, but it was going really fast, and now it's just really slow. I'm starting the raw food lifestyle not only to kick my weight loss back into high gear, but to also be healthy. I see my lapband as a tool to lose weight and to keep it off. I cannot eat more than I am supposed to, and that makes me feel secure. I used to overeat all the time, and I hated myself for it. Now that I can't, I know it's not because of my own willpower because I still have head hunger, but I'm grateful for it. I think that raw food is my key to keeping my weight off and staying healthy. The lapband started the journey for me, and now I'm going to keep it going with raw.

I have an uncle that's probably close to 500 pounds... He can't stay on a diet. He told me (we're really close) that he believes he eats so much because he's trying to kill himself... I don't think he really wants to die, he just feels hopeless... He's considered the lap band.. I think for him, it would be a good idea. He can't stay on a diet. Maybe if he lost some weight, just to start, he could begin feeling better and eating healthier. It's really sad watching people you love throw their lives away.. He's interested in going raw, even if only for a short period of time, just so he can get some weight off.. He said I'd probably need to go over to his house once a week & make some raw dishes for him & his family, which I don't mind doing. Anything to help my family! :) If he were to get the lap band, I'd be supportive, because he needs to lose weight. Once he started feeling better, he could begin seeing the benefit in eating food to live, and not living to eat food, and would probably enjoy a raw diet very much!

So good for you on your lap band surgery. If it was the right decision for you, then that's what's important. It's too bad that you didn't try raw first, but at least you did something to try and better yourself and correct your problem.. And at least now you found raw food and are on the way to being a healthy, happy new you! Congratulations on your weight loss! 55lb is AWESOME!
