View Full Version : Blendtec owners: Do you get a black line under the jar?

On my Blendtec some of the plastic/rubber under the jar where the blade shaft goes through the jar, I have black line all around, the black plastic is being powdered and flung out creating a black line coated with this black stuff. I can clean it off but after a few more uses it's appeared again.
Does it do this on yours also?
Yes, it's on mine as well. I'll be honest - I toss mine in the bottom rack of the dishwasher and call it good, I stopped trying to clean off the line.
I didn't know they were DW safe until about a month ago when I watched a demo at Costco - and he told me it was. Mine's been in the DW every day since! I put the lid on the top rack too. I guess I got off track here, didn't I? *Ü*

Yes. All blenders do this to some extent, but the Blendtec -- it's just unavoidable. And harmless, I think. I sometimes scrub it mostly off. It's worse if you are in the habit of leaving the jar with liquid in it (or wash water) ON the blender base. My husband warns me not to do this. I guess it can rust and ruin the blender. But the normal black line is -- normal, lol.

I clean my blendtec by simply rising it with water in the sink, if it was something with lots of fat I'll put warm water in it and blend for 10 seconds and it's clean. I think it's much faster to clean it that way.
For the black line I just pass a paper towel along it with a bit of pressure and it wipes away.

Yes, it's normal to have that recurring black line.

Ha - I get one even on my Kitchen Aid Blender.

I "think" I had the same thing happen to me, too, but maybe mine was worse...? I noticed the black stuff, too, so decided to run a test. I put water only in the blendtec and ran it for a few seconds. Unfortunately for me, the water was filled with black/gray "stuff" (NOT a good smoothie ingredient!) so I decided to purchase a replacement jar (~$60 ). I hope that's not what happened to you but maybe run the test just in case?? The website says the newer jars are designed to last longer and now when I wash mine, I very carefully dry all around the seal, inside and out. I don't know if that's really doing anything or not but it can't hurt!

In my case the black line is not in the jar, it's under the jar at the base. The jar has a lifetime warranty for this type of issue, you can get it replaced for free.

Agree - this is what I meant - mine is under the jar on the base.

Now that I think about it, my original jar was very different than the new one. My blender is older, actually it's the K-tec HP3 (very similar and same company as Blendtec). The original jar had the gasket (black rubber thingy) exposed on the inside, the new one does not. So I guess that is what they improved in the new design. Mine did last for about 5 years though so I can't really complain too much... and I LOOOOOOOVE my blender!
