Hi everyone
I don't own a dehydrator and money is a bit tight (I just ordered Alissa's book!) so... can you eat the dehydrator recipes as they are? Meaning, without dehydrating or sun drying or putting them in a low oven?
I'm sure it's *possible* to eat them, just wondering how they taste. Any that I should steer clear of? I heard good things about the pesto stuffed mushrooms even before they've been dehydrated....
Thanks

Many of them would be fine, different but still good. The carrot pecan burgers (I had tonight) would make a nice pate wrapped in lettuce. Seems anytime I make something for the dehydrator I do enough taste testing to call it a meal before it even gets in the dehydrator.
I'm sure you will enjoy the book. Have fun with it. :)

Cookies sometimes don't make it to the dehydrator sometimes ;)
Recipes for things like wraps obviously you wouldn't be able to eat it like a wrap just out of the food processor but it could be used as a spread/dressing/dip.. etc
This is one thing that I loved when I first went raw was that all the 'doughs' you could eat right away and not have to worry about eating something that is suppose to be cooked/baked that could make someone sick - I can't even think of an ingredient right now that is used in traditional cooking/baking its been so long!
Have fun playing !!

Hi! I'm basically in the same boat (sigh) Without dehydrating Alissa's recipes they will have moisture/liquid and that will affect the texture. I would say do your best!--Something I do as a dehydrating substitue is take ingredients, like barley that's been soaked/sprouted and ground and roll it out thinly on wax paper and store in the freezer for a short period of time. It gets kind of hard...cold, but hard. So that might help. ;) Good luck to ya!

Basically many things can be eaten w/out dehydrating including lasagna, burgers, loaves, etc. I just wouldn't eat the crackers and I don't do fungi so can't tell you about the stuffed ones.

I don't see any harm. I haven't use Mine in a couple of years.

I do this a lot, especially with burger and loaf mixes. I wrap them in lettuce with sauce, tomatoes and sprouts.
I wouldn't eat flax crackers non dehydrated, but most others (including cookies) are fine.

Hi, Hellicat. For those who don't have a dehydrator, just wanted to mention this. Someone had given me a link to a "quick pizza crust" where they put a baking stone in an oven, warmed it up, cut off the oven, then let the pizza crust sit in there. Then, there is more talk on this thread about alternatives to appliances including a solar dehydrator (even though that is not what the thread was meant to be about):

Oh for a solar dehydrator!
If I were at all handy with a tool kit, I'd be making one of these babies!

Cheese that hasn't been dehydrated can be used for cheese dip or sauce, depending on how runny it is.
