Anyone indulging???
Somewhere inbetween sprouts and the big leaf are micro-greens.
At a dinner with clients, I was at a high faluting restaurant in Vegas. The had ordered special for me, got the vegan part - missed the raw. Was served a beautiful mushroom risotto. It was a real moment of truth for me.
How much of a flap to make of it????
Emboldened by all the clients drinking wine! I called the waitress over and explained. She took it back, and I got a regulation plate - some raw veggies, neither filling nor satisfying.....
However, they were sprinkled with the tiny little leaves of something delectable. I didn't want to be a pain - but I had to know! I called the waitress over. She said they would be either basil or celery microgreens.
Although struggling with the garden and sprouting and wheatgrass duties - I have got to get into production on these!
YUM----MY!!!
Anyone partaking???
Anyone cultivating???
Tell your tales!

The best priced micro-greens I've had are from Trader Joe's. A small box sells for $2.99. I don't usually shop at Trader Joe's, but if I'm in the area I stop and get some.
My favorite way to eat them is in an open-faced sandwich; RawVolution's Onion Bread with my pine nut mayo and a slab of tomato, covered with micro-greens. YUM!
Tomorrow I'm going to try some sprinkled on kelp noodles in a ginger-sesame dressing.
I adore micro greens. The ones from Whole Foods are expensive - nearly $5 a container, but exceptionally tasty. I like the taste of them even better than the Trader Joe's ones. They aren't organic, but are pesticide-free. Absolutely divine flavor!

You can grow them in your average sprouter!
Easy, and they take less time than normal sprouts.

I have! I do Garden cress (Lepidium sativum), very very spicy/tangy and a very easy micro green to begin with.
1 - take plate and cover with either of these a) 1/2 inch layer of soil b) organic cotton pads c) a few layers of paper towels
2 - Spray with water until moist, and then sprinkle seeds on top. Spray again.
3 - Keep spraying until the greens look nice and eatable, after about 7 days.
Remeber to spray all the time, they drink like crazy and die pretty qucikly if they don't get enough water. I spray mine at least 3 times per day.
4 - enjoy! I think this way of doing it works for most microgreens.
Peace

I'm liking the sound of these microgreens.
Can anyone recommend a good seed for me to sprout at home?

I'm researching microgreens, so I brought up this old thread. www.sproutpeople.com are definitely the source for this stuff.

I'm off in search of worm castings. www.sproutpeople.com recommended 30% of soil for sunflower sprouts to be worm castings.
Mini-basil huh? sounds good!
