What exactly is Candida?

I notice a lot of people on this forum talk about candida and various ways to get rid of it, but I have never even heard of it before. Is it related to yeast infections in some way? I tried to look it up on wikipedia but I just got confused.

yeah.. i would like to know, too.. i have read that it can cause breast cancer & i know that it is a type of yeast.. but exactly what is it capable of & what do you do to get rid of it? (i read here that garlic helps, but what do you have to avoid eating?)

It's a yeast overgrowth in your body. Everywhere. Can cause all sorts of problems. Remember that yeast feasts on sugars. The best thing is to google it and read, read, read. Pay special attention to what "alternatives" there are to conventional remedies.

I suppose this should be on the health forum. But I'll take a shot at answering this.

Candida albicans and other Candida whatevers are yeasts that are normally present in your body. When the body gets out of balance, the yeast will be in a situation where it can grow too much and your body will start showing a variety of symptoms.

Antibiotics are one thing that can kill off the good bacteria in your body (probiotics) and allow yeast overgrowth. In babies, this is called thrush -- with symptoms like white patches on the tongue and little red bumps on the skin that are distinctive; it's painful and they cry when nursing.

If the body is in balance, the yeast will be kept in check. Med docs try to suppress the yeast with anti-fungals, some the same as used for athletes foot; over the years they've had to develop stronger and stronger anti-fungals, as patients develop resistance to the meds. Some other methods try to starve the yeast out with changes in diet.

If anyone is reading this thread and has a problem that has not responded to other means, the homeopathic remedy made of candida totally solved my horrific systemic yeast problem, which had failed to respond to all other methods.
