Today is my first 100% day and I'm really excited (just a little hungry). I'm curious about when I will start to detox. Is this something that happens in the first week? What kind of symptoms are we talking about? How long until we are clean (I'm also quitting smoking - today first day (cringe - embarrassed to even say it, but its true) - but I'm sure I'll have some detox with that as well. I guess the next week I'll be a bit grumpy! Any advice on dealing with mood swings -- My poor hubby. (btw - he saw Alissa on the today show and said WOW she looks great, maybe I should try this diet.) thanks all! sonja.

I've started going raw today myself, or perhaps I should say transitioning to raw, after doing a lot of reading on this site and in other places. I must admit the whole detox thing has me a bit anxious because of all the possible symptoms. I, too, would be interested in hearing about this topic from others.
Oh, and don't worry, Sonar, I was once a smoker too. You're pretty courageous to work on the smoking and diet all at once although I did read once that's the best way. I wish you much success.

Sonja and Gail, detox is different for everyone. It depends on how good or bad you ate before raw. Some people will have longer detox periods than others. Others will go back and forth like a seesaw with detox.
You don't have to be afraid of detox. It is not debilitating. It can just be a nuisance at times.
Good luck on your journey and keep coming back to this site! It really helps.
Blessings.

Welcome! I am six weeks raw tomorrow. Detox for me has at times been unpleasant. The first week was the worst. I was very tired and a little sick to my stomach at times. You may even experience some diarrhea. I lost a lot of weight.. But as tracyinfo says, it is different for everyone. I felt pretty good after the second week until the fifth week. This week I had a detox day on Sunday. A dull headache, and just no energy. Monday when I got up, I had incredible energy! Today (Wednesday), I am having a slight detox day. So, some days you'll be great and others not so great.
I don't mean to scare you, but be prepared. If you are also detoxing from smoking, it may be rough. You have to remained focused on what you want to accomplish. Detox from cooked food and smoking at the same time will be putting a lot of strain and stress on your body; physical, mental and emotional. But, YOU CAN DO THIS! When you come out the other side you will feel an incredible freedom. You will start to smell things that you never smelled before. Your senses will awaken.
Please keep us posted.

In addition to what has been said thus far, you may also want to check out the forum entitled "Need to Know More about Raw" where you'll find an article dealing with the subject of detox, what to expect, etc.

Thanks everyone for the input. Tim, hope you feeling better today. I still need to check out the forum Rawkinlocs suggested, but I'm hoping its just a few day of grumpiness here and there and maybe some no energy days. I think I can get through if I know its because of detox and it will end and not because its my personality! Then I might have to keep the bad habits or no one will want to be near me. Thanks again. Today is day 2 100% and no smoking. I feel a little tired, but great!!
