View Full Version : Longevity of Blended Greens

Saw mention of a green smoothie roll-up in the dehydrator thread, which would be quite a boon -- nutrients on the go, camping.

I have read that the greens when juiced should be drunk right away. Does anyone have an idea about the good stuff in the greens lasting long enough to be dehydrated? (I supposed the powders like barley green are vacuum dehydrated or freeze-dried to preserve the nutrients, but have no idea.)

When I've had too much spinach, I've gone ahead and blended it with water, then frozen it, and added to smoothies later when I can't find the greens in the store. I always keep a little frozen spinach.

Thanks, Soose

The greens in a smoothie do not deteriorate or oxidise as fast as in juice. Victoria has given a time limit on them and maybe someone will recall what it was but I think that it was 36 hours.

Thanks, Sport. I must have read that originally but totally forgot. I wonder why it lasts longer -- because it has the fiber?

I do remember in their trial they transported the green smoothie quite a distance -- can't remember if it was weekly or bi-weekly. So now I'll remember a green smoothie will last longer even with greens. :)
