Hi everyone!

I'm totally new to the raw food lifestyle, and I'm very excited. I am curious, however-- will I still reap all the raw benefits I hear so much about if I continue to take my prescription medications? I currently take Abilify and Lexapro (both for depression), Adderall (for ADD), and birth control. I feel like going off the depression medications is just not an option for me. I have a familiy history of mental illness (my paternal grandfather committed suicide, and my mother's bipolar and was briefly hospitalized for it), so I do not want to risk the potentially severe consequences (if my family history is any indication) of going off the medications. I just want to know if my body will still respond to the raw food lifestyle in the overwhelmingly positive way I've heard/read about if I'm staying on prescription medications.

Absolutely the raw diet can help you! You are right in that you cannot just go off of your meds. If you and your doctor do decide that you can try to go off, you must do it under your doctor's supervision.

If you go to these websites from www.hacres.com, I did a search for you and found testimonies of people who no longer have bi-polar or depression as a result of a raw diet.

So glad you want to try raw. It can be very tough at first, but soon your body will crave it, and you will reap what you sow!

Take care,

There are people here who have gone of meds for ADD. As far as the depression, work with your doctor. Try the raw first and see how you feel and try cutting back if it seems reasonable. If you can't, you can still be more healthy raw and on meds than not raw!!

After about 10 years taking ADHD medications, it took me about two weeks of raw to be able to focus without them. It was like a miracle.

The thing worth noting is that I WAS RAW and receiving MAJOR BENEFITS already even while I was taking the medication still. Benefits like my skin clearing up drastically, no longer feeling these really overwhelming and unexplainable days/bouts of sadness and desperation, my ulcer(s) healing, my digestive problems disappearing, no longer having uncontrollable gas, ETC.

The only prescribed medication I was taking at that time was 2-3 times per day taking SA Ritalin. BUT I also was taking several TUMS after almost every meal because of the painful heartburn. I didn't need that any more the moment I got rid of meat.

So, I don't know exactly what my experience means for you.

But I do know that everything you do for your body and spirit helps. Raw food but still taking medication is hardly a waste. You are wise for asking these questions and definitely just as wise to give raw a go while taking precautions for your safety!

I hope you find the best of health! :)

Thank you all so much! I will definitely stick with raw and continue to take my medications, at least for now. I may explore cutting back on the medications in the future, but in the meantime, I will just see how it goes. So excited!

Thanks again!
