hello I'm new here and new to fasting. I wanted to start fasting as a way to cleanse and start eating healthier, but only have 8 days to work with. Can I successfully fast in 8 days? I don't really like the taste of green veggie juice * gags* just thinking of it, can I only do a fruit/ melon fast with stuff like cucumbers and tomatoes? and when I'm feeling uber hungry can i make smoothies made from the juice with protein powders and oil like flax seed oil? Is tea and broth OK for a different taste? I think that is all I needed to ask.
once I'm done I plan on doing a 14 day colon cleanse, with a low calorie mostly raw diet.
* I only have 8 days cause of a vacation I'm planning and my family is planning several big dinners for me, so I have to eat something even if its a salad with tea.

Hi! Welcome here.
The body first gets the glycogen in the liver and muscles when you fast, because it is deprived from sugar. It takes between 12 to 36 hours depending on the individual and on the fast type. It's quicker with water fast, a little bit slower with juice fast. When the glycogen is over, your body tries to take proteins that do not belong to your body (it will basically absorb any non-self cells like cancer or bad bacterias in your body) and in the same time, your body will take fat in order to break it and absorb it. The longer you fast, the longer this process will go on. A water fast is considered to be long after 8 days, and juice fast after 14 days.
But don't worry, in 8 days, your body will already do a lot of job. The 3 first days are the hardest.
Go here, it helped me a lot when I fasted and it kept me informed and motivated: http://www.fasting.ws/juice-fasting/category/juice-fasting
Hope this will help!

yes you can do an 8 day fast. i highly recommend though that you don't eat during your fast or you won't be able to continue fasting. especially on your first fasts.
you can add apple to any green juice which turns it into something yummy... but doing fruit juices are wonderful. i did an 84 day fast on fruit juices alone and loved the experience.
i would stay away from protein powders but adding flax oil is a good idea once a week (about 1 tsp). tea is totally fine... broth is cooked so i cannot advise you on that as this is a raw food forum.
why do you NEED to eat? i have fasted through many events (weddings, pot luck dinners etc) and no one really cares if you aren't eating. i usually take extra juice with me to make sure i'm not hungry and seldom go through much of it LOL but it's there in case i need it.
i love parsley/green apple/ginger juice. you may enjoy it as well.
watermelon with the rind is heavenly
cantaloupe is divine
and pineapple is amazing!!! try adding a little powdered spirulina to your pineapple juice... it'll feed your body nicely!

i meant to add (hit the reply button too fast)... that if you eat and add in the protein powders etc your digestion will not shut down. if it doesn't shut down you WILL be hungry. you don't want to be hungry on a fast, you want to allow your body to rest and heal...
so i really do recommend not eating while fasting.
but it's your fast... you get to make the rules :) there are no fasting police so do what you wish (((hugs)))
