Yes, been using them for years. Top 3 most powerful, high quality organic digestive enzymes:
Enzymedica Digest Gold (or Theramedix DGX)
Garden Of Life Omegazyme (or Original Medicine)
Sunfood Beauty

The point is to help digestive problems, so it's not going to cause the problems.

I take Rainbow Light Plant-Source Advanced Enzymes, made in Santa Cruz, California.

Dr. Michael Lam said that we all have cancer cells in our bodies. Dr. Josef Issels said that "cell membranes of cancer cells are weak enough to be attacked by proteases." In other words, some digestive enzymes can digest cancer cells.

So, are people taking the enzymes 100% raw or not?
I am unsure if I should be taking them (I am 100% raw)?!

There's a reason I give those formulas as the top 3. If you compare ingredients, they're the strongest formulas available, which means you take less (often 1-2 caps) and they work well for someone eating SAD, heavy raw, not food combining, etc. They're also vegan and the closest to a raw formula. Other ones may work too, but usually at a higher dose.

With being 100% raw, some times you may need it. From the research I've done enzyme supplements are always suppose to improve/maintain health regardless of diet. But it really depends on what you want to do.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but when do you take the enzyme supplement? Before a meal? On an empty stomach? I have a bottle of the Garden of Life formula around here somewhere...

If it's primarily to digest food, you take it with the meal. If you are trying to heal something, then on an empty stomach they work similar to systemic/therapeutic enzymes.

Hello Dimond

you skipped my above question

What he failed to mention was that radiation destroys living enzymes in wholesome foods like spinach and strawberries, stripping them of their nutritional value.

http://www.naturalnews.com/026469_food_irradiation_health.html

How popular is food radiation in U.S. now ?

I have a question about enzymes too. If enzymes are so easy to destroy, how can they make a pill with them? If live foods don't have enough of them, how can they be bottled?

or depends on what type of enzymes ?

Thanks for reply

Hi Vrindavan -

I like both Doctor's Best and Enzymedica.

Yes, they can be consumed without the capsule. Some may have a special coating to bypass the stomach. Those, I would probably take in the capsule.

not sure why it is not in a special capsule ?

sometimes i wonder how complete our digestive system dissolves the capsule, so i try to break or open it first to consume

O.k....NOW I'm CONFUSED!!! Why does one that's 100% RAW ***NEED*** and Enzyme Supplement? Alissa doesn't say that we need that in her book....

Vrindavan

i think it is REALLY optional

but it is really a matter of better off or no difference.

because it is better off with it for me, so i prefer to use it

Forgive me please, but isn't the whole purpose of being 100% RAW is so that Supplements ARE NOT NEEDED...??? I know that you say they're "optional", but why the "OPTION"? Why is taking a supplement "better off" than being 100% RAW with no supplements???

SAD = Standard American Diet

Again, we're trying to be 100% RAW on this site...I don't think Alissa is supporting taking ANY supplements... Alissa has this set up to support the RAW lifestyle and based on HER BOOK which doesn't say that supplements are needed. Interestingly, you began this thread asking if anyone takes enzyme supplements...

HUMMMM.... O.K., that's INTERESTING... I honestly didn't KNOW that she sells them!!! I didn't see a mention of them in the book and was wondering about them is all.... I guess she DOES support taking supplements (the ones she sells)...my baddd!!!

just don't buy it then

No need to get "huffy"!!! I just asked!!!! After all, I'm still among the "learning" here... It's confusing because I thought eating RAW was all that was needed... I took supplements when on the SAD diet because the food does not provide what was needed to maintain a healthy body.

No worries...you answered my questions, so I'm outta here...

hey all, im wondering the same: that if we are raw, do we NEED the enzyme supps? but heres why im wondering. my naturopath says that we cannot break down the cellulose in the raw food, esp in veggies and greens i think she is talking about, to get to the goodies inside without having sufficient enzymes. she says that the cellulose is broken down by cooking, dehydrating, or by enzymes, which she feels i need to supplement with. but the enzymes are super expensive. note: she does not own the shop that sells them, so she has no vested monetary interest in prescribing them. and im also wondering where the enzymes COME from and if its possible to just find enzyme sources ourselves by eating alot of particular types of food that they come from. i know that different enzymes digest different things (i.e. proteins, starches, etc) but im wondering specifically where the enzyme capsules get their CELLULASE.... in which case couldnt i just eat more of these foods instead of paying a billion dollars for the supplements?
i do know that i need SOMETHING; i basically ran my body down from mental and academic stress and physical labor over too many years time and my body has no reserve now, it is nutritionally depeleted and even raw foods on its own doesnt seem to be enough; i suspect that my absorption is poor, hence her recommending the enzymes. but i wish there was a cheaper way to do it as i cant afford these guys in the dosage she wants me to take so i dont end up taking them consistently. i know acv on things helps to break them down but i cannot STAND vinegar. i jsut cant seem to get it down, nor to get down any salads that have even a BIT of it on it. ive always hated vinegar.
so, yeah...sources of cellulase, anyone?
thanks

Wait, one more question:

by digestive enzymes do you mean probiotics? Like from yogurt? My father has a degenerative brain disease that is causeing his digestive system to stop working properly and we give him probiotics. Would raw or vegan digestive enzymes be better or healthier for him?

kaybee
10-05-2009, 08:01 AM
no, not probiotics, those are good bacteria. enzymes are somethign else. they are catalysts or something, they help in food breakdown and digestion
