Help I seem to have got an addiction to nuts, especially cashew and brazil nuts. I eat so many a day its crazy but I wake up thinking about them. I crave for something heavy and I think this is why I'm going for them. Any help on this please as I end up feeling yuk after a day of nuts.

Are you sure they're the 100% raw kind??

Yeah, are they 100% raw and salt free?

If you are just starting out on raw, I wouldn't worry too much. I think we are used to that heavy feeling that cooked food gives us, and are trying to replicate the same on raw. Many people who've been eating raw for awhile say that over time their diets become simpler (less fancy raw dishes) and lighter (less nuts, and more fruits, greens, and veggies).

Another thing to rule out is whether you are using heavy foods to repress emotions. Many of us who carry an emotional burden tend to overdo fat on raw as we are trying to numb our senses the way we used to do with cooked foods. I'm not saying that you are using nuts for emotional eating, I'm just saying that some people do this.

Takes a long time (for some not so long) to get use to the light feeling instead of the heavy feeling that most are used to on the SAD diet.
I would recommend taking enzymes when you eat a bunch of nuts.
Have you ever tried eating enough fruit to get the same heavy feeling?
Have you tried taking a break from nuts or see how long you can go with out them.
When I did this I went a month of not eating any nuts or seeds. After that month I hate a bunch of them and felt so sick after. That did the trick for me. Now I dont eat them, unless blended in a recipe which would only be on a special occasion.

Wow, that's really interesting. Were you still eating seeds during your nut-free month? My assumption is that if someone is still eating seeds, then eating nuts after a month wouldn't be such a big deal - though I'd be interested in hearing your experience.

Its good to feel light... So I have learned :)

thanks everyone, yes the nuts are 100% raw I'm certain of that and no salt. I'm sure it's not emotional eating it's just I can't get that satisfied feeling even if I fill myself up on fruit or vegetables. I'm into my 8 th month of 100 % raw so it's not just because I've just started out. Some days I can't stand to think about eating any fruit and vegetables so I snack on the nuts which makes me feel horrible by the end of the day. I have last 1/2 day with any nuts at all which is not long at all.

I can relate. I get totaly addictet to the nuts and seeds when I eat them. I just cant stop eating. Specialy cashews. Right now im nut/seed free, but I would like to try to eat just a little of them everyday. Hope I wont get hooked again this time
I havent found a reason why. Maby there is somthing in them that our body craves ? maby it is an intolerance to nuts / seeds ? I have no clue.
I have noticed that when I eat them my stomac turnes into a stone. Really uncomfotable. Maby you are right Rawsar that it is a lack of enzymes :)

Maybe soaking and letting air dry for a few hours would help you guys? So they get more of a sprout-like feeling in them?

oh - and also - to do something with them?

Like for example, my main cashew eating is a cultured sour creme dressing - so soaked for 6+ hours, whipped up smooth, adding of culture, and allowed to ferment with a dish towel over the jar for 36 hours. Seasoned up with curry type spices for veggies (specially dandelion!), or my fav easy sweet thing: mix the creme with goji berries, and let sit for 10-15 minutes so the berries soften, then take nice ripe raspberries in your fist and crush them over the creme mix. Super yum!

Now with the almonds - I soak overnight, then whip up in the blender with spices and veggies. Like curry spices and a red pepper, or just salt, pepper, and onion with lots of mushrooms. Then I do collard wraps with sunflower sprouts and avocado.

EAT don't rationalize, you probably need them.

Probably something in them that your body needs to do some repair. It will pass.

We need the good fat to loose the bad one anyway.

Enjoy raw food!
