Back in November 08 - so that would be 7 months ago - I stopped using all over the counter products that included toxic chemicals. no more bad deoderant, soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and lotion.

Well 7 months later and I still can not get my lower legs in shape. My skin - only on the lower legs, in the front is like crocodile skin, not only is it scaly, but it is rough and very non-elastic. I was never an overall body lotion user, no body wash, etc in the past - but I did always put lotion(jergens, etc) on my lower legs after I got out of the shower for the last 20 years of my life.

7 months ago I started out using Coconut oil. I also have almond, apricot kernal and jojoba(that I use on my hair in the shower) After months and months, it really does not take the place of a conventional lotion. I have tried to use nothing, I have tried it every way possible - dry skin brushing, exfoliating, only oil - everything!!!! The rest of my body is fine, my skin is great, smooth - my hands are the best ever!!! I'm very hydrated, etc, etc.

I am at a loss for what to do with my lower legs - I have been waiting this out thinking I just needed to give it time - but 7 months, and not even a bit better???

any advice for me?? a non-toxic product recommendation?? I am always reading about everyone using coconut oil, dry skin brushing - but that is just not working for me!!

I use a shea butter lotion with oils. I find it's the one that works best.

I agree with shea but I use the straight shea butter, no lotions. Be sure it's pure, not white, sort of yellowy and smells nutty.

Some place else you might check is ~ Organic Healing (http://organichealing.net). You could eat their products they are so pure. Have you tried using a body scrub? They contain oil that lasts after the shower/bath.

The shea lotion I use is pure. Just more liquid so it spreads easier. They even have a vegan version. Also I never found straight shea to work well, but mixed with oils it does.

The reason I use pure shea is because if it's sold through a store of any kind, it has to have preservatives to maintain a shelf life of up to 2 years is my understanding ~ which makes it not "pure". My shea butter contains no preservatives other than the shea butter itself. I'm not selling it so have no wins ~ just telling what I use and why.

It's made fresh and sold usually on-line, just like the company you sent a link for. I don't like store stuff generally for the reasons you mentioned. Also because the stuff is usually quite old.

Yeah. One could be at the end of the 2-year shelf life. lol

I have the same dry skin on my lower legs too. I've been using oil now to shave and trying to be consistent on applying oil after showering. Definately has helped, but the skin is damaged due to a lot of sun burning when I was younger. I also use shea butter sometimes. I got it on-line in bulk unrefined and blend it up in food processor with a little bit of sesame oil. I think it is going to take time with consistently keeping the body hydrated along with moisturizing. Let me know if you find something that works for you. : )

We recently order some huge aloe leafs and after I cut the goo out and put it in our smoothies I take leaf and rub the gooey part all over my body. I have been spending hours outside in the sun and I find the aloe has done a pretty good job at hydrating my skin.
Sometimes I'll use coconut oil too. mmmmm.. :)

UPDATE**** i bought some shea butter with oils on wednesday last week and can I just say WOWOWOWWWW!!!

this stuff definitely did the job!! I did change my routine a tiny bit besides the shea! I also bought a loofah type rag and really rubbed it on my legs half way through my shower, hoping to exfoliate - then at the end of the shower I rubbed the jojoba oil on them. Once I was out and dry I applied the shea.

My legs are sooooo soft and the scales are almost gone, nothing at all like I experienced with the coconut oil or any other oil!

THANK YOU!!

I'm 55 and dry skin brushing and sugar scrubbing works for me - my skin has never been more silkier and baby soft. ~ Cathy
