I bought some spring mix. Today I started to eat it and my chin became so itchy I had to stop and scratch! My face turned bright red with blotches and HOT. I remembered I had issues after I had this mix before but milder. SO I am trying to figure out what in the mix could be the issue. It is organic has Tango(have no idea),Lolla ROsa,Red and green Romaine,Red and green Oak (lettuce),Red and green chard,Spinach,Mizuna,Radicchio,Frisse,Beet greens,Arugula,Tata Soi,Red Mustard. These are all greens in one package.

I can eat chard, romaine spinach. The rest is stuff I don;t think I have had before. I do react to hot pepper oils(can't breathe) dijon mustard(headache)
So neither has caused the reaction I am getting.
I know I can just not eat the mix but would like to know if anyone knows of issues with any of these.

no i don't.. not with greens, but other foods that affect my rosacea on my face.. simular like yours but with more goodies than your symptoms.

what i had to do to discover was eat one thing at a time and see the results. sometimes it takes a couple days to appear but some 5 minutes. so since you are lucky to get a quick outbreak it should be simple to discover what you're allergic to. i'd start after your face clears. if you get no results then try 2 kinds at a time... it may be a combo thing and i have a combo allergies too.
blood tests may show up too what your allergies are.

i'm not familur with all those by name.. but any hotish green if there are any in the mix may be your allergy. i know i've had a mix before and something was a tad hot.

Packaged lettuce is usually rinsed in chlorine. Could be that or something else they use, depending on the brand.

This was olivias organic no pesticide yada yada spring mix. I have had her spinach before no problem.
I drank a few gallons of water then had watermelon juice and it started to clear up. this morning it is only slightly bumpy but not red.

I could eat pices of it to try for reactions. Thanks for the reminder on that.

My allergy testing says I am NOT allergic to anything. Yeah right you should see me turn red from foods. Or can't breathe from pesto (I assume it is the pine nuts).
Use citrus around me and watch me walk in circles ( I have an epi pen for this one).
But hey NO allergies!!! So what's the Epi pen for?? Hmmm

Was it in a package or fresh from a box. If in a package, no, no pesticide yet, the do spray something into the package to keep the mix fresh which they don't have to mention far as I know.

i always wondered/questioned the reliability of those tests. i've heard friends and people on the net getting them and discovering their allergies. i've never gotten one before. i feel the most reliable way to discover is testing for yourself like i mentioned. plus checking moods, dehydration and so forth. even if you don't break out or get a tummy ache you can still be allergic to something. but if you get deathly ill from something then i think more research should be sought to see if other foods are related, of course.

perhaps allergies can hide in blood tests like lyme disease?

I just sent an email off to them to find out what they may add to the produce after they pick it. ie chlorine or sprays for packaging.

Maybe one thing at a time not so much mixed, then you can isolate the challenge for you?

"Thank you for your inquiry. We are sorry to hear that you broke out with a rash. Perhaps you may want to try our sweet baby lettuce; this blend does not contain mustard greens.

Nothing is added to or sprayed on our greens; there are no additives or preservatives in any of our products. Our greens are washed in a ph balanced chlorinated water bath and then dried in centrifuges. Please note, the National Organic Standard allowance for chlorine is 4 parts per million. In our facility, our system shuts down at 2 parts per million. This process kills any potential pathogens. Our drying process leaves 3% moisture on the greens, all of which gets reabsorbed back into the product. Our greens maintain a cold chain of 32 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit from harvest until delivery to our customers. Maintaining the cold chain, along with our drying process, is what keeps the greens fresh up to the Use By date. The only exception to this is the Crunch Bunch salads with the inner bag. Because the cut romaine oxidizes when exposed to air (starts to brown), the atmosphere of the bag is modified by removing the oxygen and leaving a nitrogen rich environment. This process, along with the cold chain, maintains the freshness of the romaine. Once the bag is opened, and the cut romaine is exposed to oxygen, the product will start to break down. "

Okay and now you know the REST OF THE STORY

if hot pepper oils and dijon mustard are a problem for you, the red mustard, arugula, and possibly mizuna in this mix could be the problem. all of these greens are "hot" and i believe that prepared mustard is actually made with the seeds from mizuna, though i could be wrong on this.

im not sure what i think about the chlorinated water in that stuff either.... i hate chlorine.

I can't eat dijon mustard but I can eat French's yellow mustard. (well when I was SAD LOL) I can't breathe when someone has hot peppers of tabasco/hot sauce near me.
