raw food is pretty amazing. when i first started out 4 months ago i immediately began losing weight that i didn't want to lose :( but over the last 4 months i've adjusted alot to raw foods and i can eat so much less and maintain my perfect weight. i even gained a couple healthy pounds! it's so comforting to me that i never have to worry or think about my weight or how much i'm eating any more; i just eat what my body wants and it all works out fine. on a cooked vegan diet i was eating about 2,000 calories a day and maintaining my weight fine. i recently put in my typical day of food on fitday and found that now i can maintain my weight on about 1500-1600 calories a day  i love raw! usually i have fruit for breakfast (sometimes w/ soaked almonds or some raw hemp hearts), then for lunch and dinner i just have big salads, green soups, or green smoothies + extra fruit occasionally, and i am satisfied. i'm still working on eating mindfully but i've promised myself that i can get to an even better place w/ food in the future. :)
has anyone else experienced this (eating less+maintaining weight)?

Wow, thanks so much for talking about this! I had posted a question about maintaining my weight on a raw diet (I don't want to lose weight, am using the diet to try to beat lyme disease).

You still have a lot of energy with less calories then?

Gosh I noticed today that I got up and did the dishes, swept my kitchen, cleaned my counters/table. A few weeks ago, I pretty much got up, went to the bathroom and back to bed. My 2 and 5 year old just brought their toys into my bed and played while I just rested.

Raw is a wonderful way to go!

I'm so glad that you are doing so well, thank you for sharing!!!

WOW you are at where I really like to be. Im so happy for you :)
Im skinny and so scared of loosing any more weight on raw food. (yes I know fear wont help anything LOL).

Ok I know that you eat pretty much what you feel like but I just have to ask (sorry ;)) how many nuts/ seeds, coconut and avocadoes do you eat everyday ? How much fruit ?

It would be great to hear from more people like you. People like me really need to hear thies stories. To keep on beliving in raw, or is it trusting ?? (somtimes I really need someone to pull me up and shake me good LOL).
Wonderful to hear, this is what it is all about :D

i'm glad to provide some encouragement ;) well, usually i eat 1-2 servings (about 1/4 cup) nts/seeds or raw fats like 1/2 an avocado or 1-2 tbs cold-pressed oils everyday. this is slowly decreasing over time, but that's what i've progressed to so far. keep in mind also that i'm not super-duper active (i do an hour of yoga everyday and go for bike rides a few times a week). so, if you are more active than this you might include more of those dense foods. if you're trying to gain/maintain weight i think it is really important to exercise (if you don't now) and include weight-bearing activities. during my first month or so on raw i ate alot of dates, nuts, and bananas to help me keep weight on too. overall, just go with the flow and trust that your body will come to its most natural/healthy weight if you listen to it. keep @ it!\:D

o yea...and quite a bit of fruit also. i actually try not to eat too much because sometimes i get bad reactions to heavy amounts of sugar (i think i'm just becoming more sensitive to the nutrients and stuff in food). i eat around 3-5 servings/pieces of fruit for breakfast and then maybe 2 more servings later on during the day. i also try to avoid eating alot of bananas these days because of all the sugar. just listen to what your body wants and how it reacts to different foods. my diet is always evolving just as most raw foodies...

Same for me. My body is much more efficient. I think that's what it comes down to, that my body is such a fine-tuned machine on raw food that every calorie works its butt off for me.
