Hello

Since discovering raw food, my interest in the nutritional value and the medicinal use of vegetables, fruit, nuts & seeds have peeked.

Book: Vegetables and Fruits: Nutritional and Therapeutic Values
Caught my eye on Amazon, the price $111.65. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this book and if so is it worth the price.

Also, if anyone could recommend any books, containing this type of information.

I guess my new hobby seem to be a little limited in resources, maybe.

Thanks for any help,

Robin

I am not familiar with this book, but doubt it is worth that much money. There is no need to analyze fruits and vegetables. They are ALL nutritious. Just eat what grows in your area and is in season. Have you read Dr. Weston Price's classic book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration?"

Hello Humanist,

Thanks for your reply.

I understand & totally agree most All vegetables & fruit are nutritious.

Consuming raw food has been profoundly rewarding. Now, I would like to go beyond the general Basics, and learn about raw vegetable and fruits more deeply. I am excited about discovering the nutritional values and how they were used as medicine, very very interesting.

I will check your book recommendation out.

Thanks,
Robin

If you've not gotten Alissa's book and dvd's, highly recommend them.

A good one for scientific evidence is The Live Food Factor (http://www.livefoodfactor.com/specialoffer/index.php?af=984684) by Susan Schenck. She's got a great special going right now where you can get $5 off. Here's my review (http://revvellations.com/weekly) of the book.

The reason this book is so expensive is that it is a text aimed at professional nutritionists, not a general audience. Textbooks like that are always expensive, in part because the publishers do not expect to sell a whole lot of them because the info is aimed at specialists. It's economy of scale--books that don't appeal to a broad audience don't have high sales so the only way the publisher can break even is to charge a lot. Libraries tend to purchase these books more so than individuals.

If you are interested in checking it out, see if your local library can get it for you via interlibrary loan.

A book I like is 'Rawsome' by Brigitte Mars. It has a chapter of almost 100 pages called 'Raw food encyclopedia' that gives boatloads of nutritional info on almost any fruit, vegetable, herb, nut and seed you can think of. There are also 200 recipes in this book, and you can get it new for less than 13 bucks.

Hope this helps.

You need to read about the China Study. This isn't talking about the value of fruit etc... but very informative. I find it gives me good knowledge to answer question when someone is legiment and are curious about my life style.

I will check this book you talk about, it seems very expensive but it might be worth it.

I don't have that book, but I've seen this one >>> http://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Healthiest-Foods-Essential-Eating/dp/0976918544/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1243618866&sr=1-1 at my NFS and it's full of good info about fruits and veggies. On a side note, the author adds to his list of healthiest foods salmon and organically fed animals for food, but really the book is a great resource...

I have George matelon(?) Worlds Healthiest Food and it is a great reference book. It is not raw though. He does recommend undercooking fruits and veggies. He also has a great web page.
Next on my list is Alissa's book and dvd. I visit this site daily so I should get that very soon.
