Uh oh - I did something wrong! I am trying to make some marinara sauce, and put all the stuff in the food processor (except dates, sun dried tomatoes, and pine nuts) and mixed it all up - no problems. Put in the sun dried tomatoes and dates, and tried to pulse, and it started spewing stuff all over the kitchen, squeezing it out through the ever-so-slight-gap between the bowl and cover!! What's up with that? Should I have soaked the tomatoes and/or dates (dehydrated, from the bulk bins) first? Should I have actually used the blender like the recipe said to?

THANKS!

lol I've had that happen several times too.

If you have a high speed blender like vitamix or blend tec use that. It also worked with a regular blender except that I did was open the small hole in the lid and added the sun dried tomatoes one by one and let them blend before adding the next, that way you don't over stress the blender.

thank you! I'll try that! I don't have a vitamix yet, so one at a time it will be.

Okay, I'm a retard! Apparently those dehydrated dates from the bulk bins - uh, NOT PITTED! So, my food processor doesn't like the pits, and after seeing the little rocks, I don't blame him, LOL! Pulled the pits, put it all in the blender, added tomatoes one at a time, and it's fine.

THANK YOU!!!

That has happened to me too - when I soak the sun dried tomatoes, it doesn't do it.

Does the blade start spinning really fast? I hate it when that happens!

I would first chop up the dry stuff by hand, then soak it. This is easier on your blender, and increases surface area so it soaks faster. Try to use a liquid that's gonna be going into the sauce anyways. Water is fine, but if you discard it afterwards, you are throwing away precious flavor. I would blend some fresh tomatoes, soak the sun dried tomatoes and dates in that, then reblend it with that stuff in there... along with some other yummy things...
