So there's this gallon of organic Amish maple syrup sitting in my refrigerator and I have no idea what to do with it. I originally bought it for the Master Lemon Cleanse. Now that that's over I'm stuck with a giant jug of sugary deliciousness.

Anybody know what you can do with this stuff? I was thinkin maple candy possibly. Any ideas would be appreciated (I have more than enough to experiment).

Great pie recipes that are made with maple syrup!

I make a pie recipe all the time with maple syrup. A strawberry icecream pie.

It has cashew , 'maple syrup', vanilla and cinnamon blended for the middle. The top ; strawberries and 'maple syrup' , blended.
Lastly the crust consists of a nut (usually pecan) crumbled and lightly blended with dates.
Freeze it and serve.
Its a wonderful red and white ice cream cake, yummy! My family gets through about 15 mini pies of these a week!

However my point really was there's heaps of desert recipes with maple syrup as an ingredient.Keep it forever in your pantry for standby, you will get your money worth!

*My recipe is (adapted) from 'The Raw Food Primer' , by Alex Ferrara

I think Matt Kenney uses maple syrup sometimes in his recipes. Says it makes a different texture than agave or anything else he might use.

Coat nuts with maple syrup. Sprinkle with salt and dehydrate. Especially good around Christmas time...

The difference between using agave, dates or honey in foods and maple syrup is that w/ maple things will crisp up in the dehydrator instead of staying moist. I use it in granola, buckwheat crispies, flax crackers (if sweetened), macaroons and glazed nuts. It isn't raw but it works great for me in these things.

I know I've said this a few times but keep in mind maple syrup is cooked at very high temperatures since it's made by boiling maple water until enough water has evaporated for it to be concentrated by 40 times. It's as bad as other cooked sugars and should be used rarely (ideally not at all) and in small amounts. It's also so insanely expensive I see no reason to use it over raw honey or agave.

Because s/he has it? And because it's expensive, doesn't want to throw it away?

Thank you lol.

Maple syrup isn't as bad as other sugars since it has lots of minerals in it. Maple syrup is a relatively pure product unlike white sugar (which has the "molasses" removed which contains most of the nutrients).

And considering the consistency of the syrup and the fact that mold can actually grow in it I wouldn't say that it's not that far from natural.

I wasn't sugggesting throwing it away, but for those that don't already have some you can get agave and honey for much cheaper and they're raw.

Maple syrup still spikes your insulin levels like other cooked sugars, you could add vitamins to white sugar and it wouldn't really be any better. I use maple syrup but bery rarely, mostly just for sugared spiced pecans because no other sweetener that I tried works for that.

Hmmmmnnnn...now that's good to know. I'm still experimenting with my dehydrator (lovin' it so far :D)
