View Full Version : finally introducing myself

I have not introduced myself yet so I thought I might go ahead and say hello. I started eating whole foods about 2 years ago- just trying to get as much as possible in every day. It was sort of low carb with lots of fruits and veggies. This was a reaction to being anemic for 3 years with no end in sight. The medical community wanted to do surgery so I thought I would try my way first. I then learned about Raw. RAW food helped me to get back to the low end of normal lab wise, but it was the best I had been in years. I felt very good. I did not get a lot of support from family and friends though, they really think that I have turned "granola". I see it as the start of something wonderful.

I did great for about 6 months and thenI had a real hard time in the winter doing raw food. I did not have a dehydrator then so maybe next winter will go much smoother. I gave up raw food entirely for about 3 months when I read a book from a mono-diet proponent that gave me the idea that I was doing raw food wrong. I was afraid to eat the wrong thing so I got hungry and ate worse things. I also did have surgery. You might have guessed...I am still anemic. The only time I have hit normal labs has been on a RAW diet so I am back on. When you feel like caca, you have a great motivator to stay RAW- it is less tempting. I have been RAW for about 3 weeks and it is going so well. I have lost 9 lbs in the last 20 days and am 7 away from my goal weight. I still am not back to normal on energy levels, but it takes time. I feel clean and awesome inside and feel at peace. I am so thankful for Alissa's video and book. They have freed me up when it comes to this diet. I no longer feel guilty that I am not eating a mono diet all the time, but rejoice that I am eating great healthy food. I now praise myself for making good choices instead of focusing on shoulda, coulda and wouldas. Blessings to all!

Good for you for listening to your body and going with your intuition. Glad you shared a bit about you.

When I was eating SAD I used to donate blood often and after a time was told that while I was not anemic my iron was too low to be able to donate. This went on for a couple of years. They would give me a paper with what to eat on it (SAD and mostly meat, in fact "eat a big steak") to raise my iron but it never worked. Now, after only 4 months on a high percentage of raw foods, my iron level is perfect. I donated blood just after Memorial day. I also noticed that most people's blood seemed so dark red that it almost looked black and so thick that it flowed on the slow side, while my blood is now a nice rich red color and flows very smoothly, yet not too quickly.
Yep. Raw rocks!

Hi and welcome!

RAW does tend to help with health issues. It's one of the reasons I'm raw (er...going back to raw).

Just out of curiosity...what is a "mono" diet?

*hugs*
