OMG I noticed a few weeks ago that my teeth were more sensitive, and now they turned gray across the tops. THe only thing I have changed is:
-drinking a lot of kombucha and eating a lot of kimchi
-Weleda Calendula toothpaste

Nothing else has changed really... Been 100% for about two months.
Any ideas? Im definitely going to the dentist soon!

I was just reading in another forum how your teeth can become sensitive on a raw diet because the teeth can be a detox source. But then after a couple of weeks the teeth got brighter and tooth sensitivity faded. It was recommended to eat more greens. I am not sure how much truth there is to the detox part but many people seem to have had it and gotten over it. I tried to attach the link to that forum.

I forgot to add that some people thought that they were getting cavities but after doing a little research on other raw forums.

This happened to me once when our water conditioner died, and our well water had a very high iron content. I noticed my teeth turning GRAY so I stopped using this water to rinse when i brushed my teeth. (I certainly didn't drink it 'cuz I hated the taste!) They soon turned back to normal!

I am not sure about what is in your toothpaste, but avoid toothpastes with glycerin, as that prevents teeth from re-mineralizing. I know that toothsoap and other powder tooth cleaners (without glycerin or fluoride) are pretty popular among raw foodists.

Greens, greens, greens!

I must admit I'm a bit obsessed with the health of my teeth. And greens in the form of green smoothies and juices makes mine and my son's teeth grow noticeably whiter and more solid.

Teeth are a dynamic system affected by our diets, the acidity of the inside of our mouths, how much we chew and what teeth products we use.

Greens are the perfect remineralisation food, containing loads of minerals and importantly mineral salts.

Are you eating enough greens? Do you have lots of fruit and not enough greens?

I've discovered that my teeth tend to get a bit sensitive if I haven't eaten enough greens for an extended period of time (I eat quite a bit of fruit). So if this happens (mostly due to me being lazy and not drinking green smoothies or juices) I start back on the daily green smoothies and I drink lots of barely grass powder in my water whenever I hydrate.

If you can, do this as well as drink fresh wheat/barely grass juice for several weeks you'll probably notice a difference, I always do.

Also, really important I find is putting celery stalks and leaves into green smoothies for valuable mineral salts. This seems to help the teeth lots!

Hope this helps!

Have your tried oil pulling??? It really helps me, it's a good way to detox and makes your mouth feel super clean.

Take care,

Could be staining. This happened to me after eating lots of beets and green smoothies.

In response to everyone:
Thank you!
lol one person says greens stain your teeth but the rest say eat more greens!
I usually do about 2-3 GS's a day! The toothpaste does have glycerin in it! I just noticed it recently but I've been using Weleda toothpaste for a while, but I just switched flavors. I'm definitely going back to the old natural paste I was using. It had xylitol in it which i think made my teeth really nice. I'm also going to the dentist! I need to look into the oil pulling, I know nothing about that :).
Thanks again for the advice. Im just worried its permanent or something!

Hi juliew - hard to know what to believe sometimes eh? lol for sure! I was wondering if you'd mind telling me which toothpaste has that xylitol in it? Thank you.

Sue.

I brush with bar soap....instead of buying tooth soap. A good kind with simple ingred n taste not too soapy. I posted info for this situation under another thread. I will find it and add it.

Here it is.http://www.quantumbalancing.com/news/saveteeth.htm
