I've been doing lots of my own research on the raw diet, and instead of just thinking about it day and night, I'm going for it. I eat a typical SAD, minus the past few days when my dad gave me his blender and I started making green smoothies. :)

First question is, for someone who doesn't like vegetables other than spinach and carrots, how do I expand my options for starting this? I know my taste buds will adapt eventually, but until then what do I do? Do I force myself to eat the new food I buy, or can I transition by detoxing solely with green smoothies? That would be fantastic.

Yea, smoothies are a good way to start. I mastered the art of the "raw food smoothie" years ago. It doesn't have to be a "green" smoothie (just fruits and leafy greens). I've been able to successfully put anything in my smoothies I don't particularly like - except spirulina - which ruins any smoothie.

One of my websites:

www.rawfoodsmoothie.com (http://www.rawfoodsmoothie.com/)

You will also want to master the art of making your own salad dressings as well - which will help cover up the extras in your salads - that you may not like.

Long term, your taste buds will begin to adapt to raw foods, and you won't have to play tricks as much - but our taste buds have been corrupted over a lifetime of SAD.

Just add small amounts of Veggies you are not Familiar with until you build up your taste for them. I am So Happy you like Spinach. Don't waste your Money buying too much food you are not going to eat. Introduce one thing at a time.......You are doing Great and Thank Dad for giving you the Blender (although a Vita-Mix is Better) for me. He lighted a Candle and you are Lighting your world.

I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW..........Welcome to MY World.

When I started I masked every green smoothie with a banana and/or strawberry. Now I look forward to that green smell and taste. I agree with what the others have said about going slowly becuase you can get a runny tummy if you know what I mean. Also, when I saw that first green smoothie I could not drink it simple because it was green. I put it in a dark cup and drank it wth a straw so that I could not see it! It tasted wonderful but that green color was strange to me. Congrats for even trying. You will start to crave them more and more and look forward to waking up and having one in the morning!

I forgot to add that there is a thread on here about 70 green smoothie recipes. If you want your smoothie sweeter than what the fruit offers you, add a sweetner like honey, agave or stevia. I use to use them but I dont anymore.
