I've seen recipes for kale chips and when I've commented that the kale I buy is really curly people reply that's exactly what they're using and show pictures that look nothing like what I have. So, as I was making my morning green lemonade smoothie I decided to take a snap to show what I mean. The stalk is pretty thick and the front to back is probably 5":

Visorblue....not sure what you want to know? Many kinds of kale, curly kale, straight kale, permed kale, highlighted kale, relaxed kale, colored kale, frosted kale.....oh wait! Did you say kale or hair????eeeeek

Hair? What's that? :)
I'm just showing the curly kale I usually get which, to me, doesn't seem like the kind you'd use to make kale chip from. I'd need to iron this stuff to make what others are calling curly kale. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Mine is CURLY kale. Much curlier. I was at a Whole Foods yesterday (not close so I rarely shop there) and I saw some curly kale. Definitely different. I'll have to find some and try some kale chips. Never heard of kale until I started eating raw.

I use the curly kale for kale chips and smoothies.
Hi Visorblue ~ Others may be posting about Dino Kale

I love making chips out of both Dino and Curly - just depends how much I make as the curly takes up more room in my D.
Curly kale is my favorite for Kale Salad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlpy2RcsOtc)- love it! *Ü*

I used to work in a health food store in a small town. I used to get tired of how ardently and neurotically people would complain about having to pick through curly kale for bugs.
A. eat the bugs
or
B. just soak the kale in a bowl of salt water to raise the bugs

Well, I've seen people's pictures and read the recipes for their kale chips and wondered why they left off the part about putting the 10-pound weight on the kale for a couple of days first. :D
I may get some curly kale vs. the CURLY kale I usually get and try the chips.

I was told to soak the broccoli florets in salt water to make the worms crawl out. SO it should work just fine for other veggies :D
I also use the curly Kale for chips. I just pile it in the dehydrator. If they get on top of each other the chips are just bigger :D Oh is that kale in my teeth??

VB, I use exactly what you're showing in the pic. Just really work the mixture into the kale, and smoosh one bunch onto a dehydrator sheet (IF you've got a 9-tray Excalibur. Remove the tray above first.
With the recipe for Chrissy's Goddess Chips, I use 3 bunches for one batch of mixture; 3 dehydrator trays and remove 3 others to make room ~ which is why a 9-tray Ex is sooooo good!

Maybe it's relaxes after massaging the mixture in. Okay, I'm adding kale chips to my list of things to try. I like the 9-tray one, too. I bought a Pyrex 9x13 dish that's 15" handle to handle and slides right in. Plan to make rawsagna and other deeper dish in the not too distant future. :)

Hmmmm.... how ironic; i'm sitting here chomping on my first batch of kale chips as I read this post :D ..... i had asked a question earlier.... I think I put a little too much EVOO in them as they seem a bit oily.... but, golly, gee, they are DEEEEE lish isssssssssssss..... I just sprinkled lots of Nutritional Yeast on them........ MMMmmmmmmmm......
Enjoy your first kale chip adventure, VB:D
P.S. ~ i used the "curly" kale ~ outta this world!!!

Maybe it's relaxes after massaging the mixture in.
Actually, mine doesn't relax until after the dry sauna which is why I remove the tray above the tray it's lying on. :)

Until I got into raw I'd never heard of kale. Now I juice it (green lemonade smoothie) almost every morning. Now I'm going to make kale chips (soon) and have even more green things in my teeth. I'm either going to have to start brushing my teeth more or learn to smile with my mouth closed. :D

I eat mine a after work when no one is around LOL. I gave some to a friend and told him to eat them at home when he could deal with the green teeth and tongue as well as the crumbs in his gotee LOL.
We need a green smiley with green flecks in it's teeth :D :D

LOL! I love this 'place' :D This is exactly what I was wondering! Now that I have my dehydrator, I've been wanting to do these kale chips you all rave about...alas, I also seem to be able to find only the super-curly kale Visorblue posted. I was wondering how the heck I was suppose to get the stuff on them! I guess determination? LOL! Since you have all assured that it will work, I'm off to prepare some now!!! I'm dying to try these treats!
