I have been to this cafe a dozen times. We do not live that far from it, so we walk.
The service I receive depends upon who is working the counter. There was a really friendly woman who used to let me substitute Quinoa for the brown rice in the tempeh garden bowl since it is higher in protein than rice.
I do not pronounce some words correctly, but that does not imply that I do not know of which I am speaking. I was rudely corrected on my pronunciation by a vietnamese counter boy or girl who looked anorexic and had very short hair.
The seven times I have had to deal with this particular counter person she/he has been very rude. Saying there was no Quinoa for the brown rice. The food is often over seasoned. and not much Quinoa in the Quinoa bowls. This tells me the place is not making much money.
The raw menu is very weak, and unappealing.
The wine selection is horrible and over priced for cheap wine. I picked out a 16 dollar bottle of what sounded like a good wine from the label, and it was the harshest crap I have ever ingested. I had to throw the rest away after one glass at home. They do not even carry raw wine!
Tonight I came with a friend to eat dinner. I had had nothing but some raw crackers and an apple the whole day.
I inquired politely about a sandwich made with tempeh ~ if they could substitute the mayo for avocado, and this particular counter person said 'NO it will be 85 cents extra' , so I said in that case I did not want the avocado, then my friend piped in saying it was ok that he was paying for it, so please add it.
My sandwich arrived with no avocado and some fried chips that I did not ask for nor did I eat.
I took a few bites before I noticed there was no avocado, so we called the waitress over nicely, and informed her that I had ordered sliced avocado and there was none. The waitress was very professional, and asked me if I would like the kitchen to make a new sandwich with avocado. I just said "no that's ok just please bring me some sliced up avocado." Which she did.
But before the waitress did the Vietnamese counter person came over again and started to quietly argue with me about petty details mostly regarding money, and that I did not order avocado. Apparently this counterperson is deaf, and she/he seems to enjoy harassing me, and denying me service.
I am not saying he/ she in a mean way. I honestly could not tell if this person was a boy or a girl, and I did not want to be rude and ask or say the person was a girl when the person was a boy or vice versa.
I would not recommend this cafe' to any of my friends. I would rather travel to Terra Bella or some veggie chinese place I know or Indian veggie places.
I am also reporting the cafe to the Dept. of Health and sanitation, because of various reasons. The last report posted on the window indicated corrective action was needed, and it had been fixed. The place is a mess.
I am never going back to that dump.:rolleyes:
