View Full Version : Increased Yeast Infections on Raw

I never had too much of a problem with yeast infections before going raw - I'd have one maybe every year or so... but now, 8 months into raw, it seems like I'm constantly either having one or on the verge of one. I'm at my wits' end! Have any of you experienced this? Does anything help?

Also - if anybody could clarify for me whether yeast infections are symptomatic of the systemic candida issue that everybody seems to talk about, I'd appreciate it...
I don't know if I should cut back on sweet fruits or fat or what I'm doing wrong -- please help! :o:eek:

Wow, I feel like I'm looking at a sister with that picture because I have your hair! How do you know you have a yeast infection? I sometimes get some itching but never have had it confirmed as yeast. From what I understand though, you don't just "get" a yeast infection down there. It's coming from your whole GI system. My issues seem to happen more when I eat junk food (duh) or when I eat too much sweet fruit, unless I am simultaneously eating little or no fat. I haven't figured this thing out yet! I just know I am better raw than not. I was doing 80/10/10 for awhile and seemed to be doing really well skin-wise but was constantly hungry and bloated(though skinny). Some say limit fruit, some say limit fat, some say just eat all raw. You could try each approach, but give each a few months. I wish there was a perfect right answer for everyone.

Hello, there, fellow curly! :) Thanks for the reply.

-I think it's a yeast infection because I've had them (albeit relatively rarely) in the past, and they've felt like this... I think I've never actually gotten tested for it, but just symptomatically everything points to it being one...

- I think it's really interesting, what you said about them increasing on high fruit if you've got too much fat in your diet... that makes sense to me. I've also considered 80/10/10, but have been hesitant because of the high sugar factor... maybe this works best for very physically active people who will burn all that sugar quickly? Maybe for more sedentary folks, higher greens is better? What do you think?

--I'd really love to hear anybody confirm this thing about a localized yeast infection being symptomatic of a generalized, systemic one... anybody know? Or able to point me in the right direction to find out?

Hi Curly, My naturopath said the idea of systemic is not true(she studied more that dr does-for nine years college!!!) rather it is in your gut. Systemic you prob be very sick and in rougher shape and on way to dying.

So the approach for this, seems to be, in word out there, limit both sugar(any kind) and fats as both contribute to the yeast overgrowth. That being said, my yeast challenges all went away on raw. I had mod amounts of fruits and lil fat(as raw already IS) and it all went away.

Greens are where its at always n forever, especially bitter ones, IMo(hahaha) and if you are doing good with all that, my guess is, you are losing the yeast in your cells and gut and it will manifest as symptoms of yeast, although on its way out. The "healing crisis" as it is referred to.

Hope this helps you. Stick with your greens and it will all be gone.Oh and I take probiotics too.

you can get over the counter tests at any drug and grocery store to check for yeast and some clinics may do it for free. it's normal for women to have yeast in your discharge. everyone does to some extent at least with cooked food eaters and eating yeast products. and yes candida plays a role in that with discharge. you usualy see an abundance of it in colonics and often no sign of any vaginal discharge.

but some discharges may be a bacterial infection, vaginitis, tric etc and so on.
ovulating...
they can look identical or simular to yeast infections.

things to look for are the texture of discharge, smell, color, itching, redness and peeling skin, burning.

probiotics help to illiminate yeast infections.

when i use to take tetracyclin i would get severe yeast infections... peeling skin and cuts in labia etc and mild discharge. once i stopped taking the meds my yeast infection healed within 1-2 days without my doing anything. only thing i did was...
i applied raw coconut oil externaly in my vaginal parts (labia etc) and it healed the cuts and i took near all itching away. it was like a miracle.

ps

i would try illiminating all known fruits that feed candida and see what happens if it decreases your discharge symptoms. if it is a candida infection.. you can heal this over time if you do certain things to kill the yeast.

What I have noticed.. Personally.. is when I 'get itchy' this is when the yeast is actually dieing... (AKA itchy = Yeast Die off)

I notice it happens after consuming alot of garlic, oregano oil or coconut products (all are yeast killers).. or eating some other yeast killer..
(which is GOOD!)

Which would make sense for you. cause Going raw normally Helps health issues. not creates them.. (Unless your eating lots of fats and fruits together.. that for me will bring on the yeast... Raw cream + Frozen Banana's.. Big No no if your still getting over yeast... But if you don't have yeast problems.. can you say.. Ice cream substitute! YUM! lol)

anyways. I hope that helps..

OHH OHH! also!!.. Some fruits actual help kill yeast... So not all fruit is 'bad'..

Raspberries Kill Yeast!! When I feel my throat getting yucky (from candida) I eat some raspberries (fresh or frozen) and it goes away!!.. so do some research on what fruit actually brings up candida. cause not all does!!

some fruits that seem to bug me more then others:

Mangos
Bananas

(If I can think of others I'll add them up..)

Just and FYI. It is suggested that when a person treats their yeast infection that their partner be treated also. One partner may not show symptoms but may be able to give it back to the more susceptible partner.
Then again if you are partner free you only have to treat one person.

Hi all

I am really interested in your comments. Thanks ever so much.

I think I have Candida which is affecting my skin. I have eczema type dry skin all over my arms, back, front and thighs. It can be very itchy and I bleed through scatching so much. It is also, as you can imagine, very unsightly.

I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. i am obese and am constantly trying to lose weight, however, I cannot seem to stick to 100% raw as I get so hungry.

Having Candida, I get it that I should eat low fat, low fruit and mainly greens, but how do I survive on mainly greens? I would appreciate any advice you can give me about an appropropriate diet to illiminate Candida. I have ordered some probiotics and am aware that these in conjunction with the right kind of green diet will cure me, however, I need some advice on what to eat to feel full and to help illiminate the Candida.

Thanks

Hi Curly girl,

Well, you are telling my story. I have had YI's off and on for over 20 years. Going raw and eating a high fat diet made my YI rage out of control. I constantly had to change my panty liners, my tongue had a white film (although I had that since I can remember), etc. I did a spring cleanse of only fruit and greens. It cleared up. I've been noticing that when I keep my fruit up and my fat down (no more then 20%) I have virtually no symptoms. When I eat more fat they return. I would recommend reading the 80/10/10 book. Very enlightening.

Good luck,
Jen

Hi Binty! :-(

I wouldn't try to go 'all raw'; right away. I would take it slow...
(and only eat things that Obviously need to be raw.. (fruit.. ect)

any 'fat' on the body. is actually stored toxins.. and you want it to be removed slowly.. or else you'll have a huge cleansing reaction. (not a bad thing.. just isn't fun!).. I would look into doing colonics.. if you don't want to go to a professional (which I personally wouldn't hehe..) I would get bernard Jensen's book and get a colema board (or 'cleansing board' as they now call it).. If you are very over weight. you may Have to go to a professional. Just cause it may be too hard to 'use the board' by your self.

http://www.bernardjensen.com/

it is the BEST thing you can do you your body.. if you don't change anything else. but clean out your colon.. you'll feel so much better.. PLUS you can actually loose weight much quicker.. as all the 'toxic fat' is sent out VIA the colon instead of other areas of elimination (which are slow and arn't comfortable, Like Lungs & Skin.)

for me. doing colonics. and keeping the colon clean. is the 1# thing you should do. BEFORE any cleansing. or else your start cleaning.. and all the 'cleansing material' will not have anywhere to go!.. and it will make you 'feel like crap' :-(.

I also would make sure the Only sugars you are getting is from fruits. and not any 'white sugar' or 'sugar cain'.. some people with candida don't have a problem with honey.. but I would limit it. (also dates.. But if you have diabeties I would think you would already be limiting these?)

I would stick with all 'Whole foods'. if you want some kind of grain.. stick with the WHOLE GRAIN. and make sure its either sprouted or fermented. (or at least soaked over night)

Also as far as fats. Coconut Oil/butter and Coconut Products are the BEST FAT you can Get!! its anti-fungal (kills candida) Plus is very filling.. GREAT IN SMOOTHIES! .. I actually have a book called 'Eat Fat, Loose Fat'

http://www.amazon.com/Eat-Fat-Lose-Delicious-Science-based/dp/1594630054/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1243969223&sr=8-1

From what I have read. it sounds like coconut oil helps steady blood sugar (can help your diabetes?)

I just read that you ordered some Probiotics. Well.. they won't work unless that colon is clean.. :-(.. so Before taking probiotics I would work on the colon.. THEN get a really good probiotic like:

If you need any more info.. or if you need me to give some more details. feel free to write me. :-)

-Blessings
Brittni

oh my! I have had the worst few days of itchiness after eating quantities of coconut and using coconut oil again. I have a coconut book that teaches to slather on the oil and it was making it so much worse. But, realizing it might be die-off, I persevered, and everything's all clear again and I continue eating and applying the oil. My best indicator is my left ear. It is strange how quickly it starts to itch and then peel inside...

Eat all your fruits alone and wait a minimum half hour before to eat something else. Listen to your body and avoid anything that will give you gas.

I would consider a good probiotic and even a colon hydrotherapy with a specialist.

When i got pregnant, i got my first infection. Those were the recommendation by my doctor:

When you go to the bathroom make sure not to wipe toward your opening. Wear only coton underwear. Do not wear nylon pans. Yeast don't do well with oxygen, maybe place a towel on your bed and don't wear anything for the night.

Hope you feel well soon!

Hi all,

Wow! I am so pleased with the amount of support you are all giving me. I will look for a colonic professional where I live as I agree that this is something that I am in desperate need off.

My GP has signed me off work for a week because my skin is so bad so I will definately go and get a colonic whilst I am off work.

I will let you know how I go on.

Once again, thanks for the advice.

Cheers all. X
