It's really hard for me to get a hold of organic fruits and veggies where I'm at. Im curious as to what I need to do about pesticides that could be used on my produce.
Can I get rid of them? What effects would it have on me over time?
Thanks!

I react very strongly to fruits that have pesticides in them (burning mouth, stomack pain, ect.). And I get these symptoms also when I remove the paring. So, I think the pesticides are right inside the fruit and you can't really do anything about them.

When i buy produce that's not organic i tey to wash and dry the things extra carefully. If i have the time and kitchen space (live in a shared flat) i'll leave all the fruits and veg soaking in cool water in the sink for half an hour or so, and then dry them off.
No scientific proof that this works or anything, but i like to think that the worst stuff sort of dillutes into the soaking water and when i rinse the produce they're less toxic...

You can try to find a group of people, and order organic food as a coop. You can also try to ask your local store to carry that. Check for your local farmer, many don't use pesticid.
Consider to start sprouting or even grow some food in plant pot.
In the mid time, find the fruit/vegetables that you should avoid if not organic and the one that are moderate.
Wash them fully.
Best wishes!

The commercial pesticide removers help. I use one called Vegewash but I think that the one I get in the US is called Fit.

I use Basic H from Shakle...its an organic cleaner that you dilute to wash anything and everything. I even use it in my yard and on my tree to kill the aphids...it is a non-toxic cleaner and its safe around pets and children so no concerns there. It is pricey at first purchase but as I mentioned above you dilute as needed and it will last along time.

Only certain things I buy organic. All greens and leaves. Apples and berries. Do you have a Costco? They always have organic spinach and spring mix. They also carry frozen organic fruits. Google farmers market in your area. Now that we are hitting the summer months they will start popping out soon! Good luck!

I think I am eating raw to be healthy why would I want to put chemicals in my body that is toxic to me? So, I think eating organic is very important if I want to stay healthy and not get sick from any cancers that these pesticides and herbicides can cause.

I'm curious where you're at?
I've also heard that soaking non-organic produce in food-grade hydrogen peroxide helps get the poisons off. Sometimes my budget forces me to drop my standards...............certain things like citrus and bananas and avocados I'll get conventional.
But it's really not conventional! Organics truly conventional, when we think about it. They've been farming organically for thousands of years. It's only been since WWII they got the bright idea to start spraying food with chemicals.
Since Parkinson's disease runs in my family, it's something I got to really think about.

The thing with washing your fruit and veggies is that the soil can be full of pesticides/chemicals also and is absorbed into the food.

And organic is about so much more than just avoiding pesticides. It's about growing super nutritious, non-GMO, heirloom, mineral dense foods in harmony with mother earth. There are old apple orchards in New England that now cannot be used to grow anything because they were sprayed with mercury during the 1920s to kill worms. Non-organic isn't sustainable!!!

Hi 3kidsmommy ~ Can you please post back about the frozen organic fruit at Costco? I don't believe ours has any, but if I know other stores carry it, I'll request it. Thanking you in advance! *Ü*

What you can do to keep the costs of good quality food reasonnable:
- Ask your organic store for quantity discounts.
- Ask your organic store if they could sell overripe leftovers at discount price to you.
- Grow sprouts, they are very cheap.
- Grow your own vegetables if you can.
- Make inquieries if there is an organic pick-it-yourself field in your area.
- Gather your own greens from the meadow!

I can not do all organic as it would limit my choice of food considerably.
Right now I would have no berries, cherries, grapes, mango, papaya, melon, or avo.
About the only thing that I get organic at the moment are apples, tomatoes, bananas, oranges, lemons, cucumber, celery, all my greens and all my seeds.
I have to clean up the rest as much as I can.
