View Full Version : Steamed veggies

I'd really like some steamed potatoes and some other steamed veggies (like Kale....which I can't stand raw) because I am so sick of salad.
Do you really think steamed veggies are all that bad? Are they completely unhealthy?

In transition many have steamed veggies. Raw is better for sure but st veg are "better than" most stuff.

i eat steamed veggies about once every 2 weeks. they aren't raw. i eat a big salad before and afterwards to try to "counter-act" their (near?) nutritional worthlessness. it just depends what your goal is and where you're at right now. certainly there are far worse cooked things to eat. but they arent raw.....

My nautropath advised me that I cannot eat certain foods raw because of my goiter. Two foods I love are kale and brocolli are on that list. She did say I could eat them lightly steamed so I am considering it. I so miss my kale in my green smoothies.

My question is, why are you just eating salads? There are so MANY other options besides cooked or salads. Don't you get tired of just eating steamed veggies?
What I think it comes down to is, as you say, you "like steamed veggies". They're not raw, this is a raw vegan support board and I will say, if you want 'em, you like 'em, you don't need our permission to eat them. How bad are they? Well, stick your finger in the steam and if it doesn't burn, then, your veggies are still alive. If it does, then your veggies are virtually dead. How's that? :D

There's tons of things you can do with raw produce. I don't get why the only choice is salad or steamed veggies.
Commoncents, probably raw processing them in some way will allow you to eat them-chopping & marinating, adding to soups, etc. The longer you're raw, the food issues usually all disappear.
