Just saw Alissa - excellent quickee presentation. We need Katie to eat her greens, and canI have a slice of the mango pie :) or should I just make the banana creme pie for breakfast. Cool beans. Just got off the phone with my sister who saw the show and when I visit her, she wants to do the pie, and the cucumber juice for the beauty benefits! :D

Cool!! Thanks SL's :)

I was just getting ready to post and ask someone from the East Coast if they had seen her, what happened, etc.

So, apprx. what time DID she end up coming on? Thanks

Alissa looked fit, happy,... sounded smart...but Katie was a drag. (sigh) how could something sooooo delicious be treated so ho-hum? I'm a little disappointed.

Alissa was on at approximately 9:25 est., for about five minutes. She served Katie and Lester a green smoothie. Lester seemed to like it better; Katie said it wasn't bad but that it tasted like her grass clippings. They moved onto cucumber juice and Lester kept sipping it while Katie said it needs salt. Alissa then showed off the Angel Hair Pasta Marinara, Mango Pie and some chocolate covered strawberries and candies. Alissa looked great and had a lot of energy.

Thanks Drawn!

So, Miss Katie had to be the "difficult", jokey/jokes one eh? (grass clippings)

Oh well, at least the word got out, Alissa got some exposure and Lester was cool with it all! Maybe he'll end up actually interested in getting started on raw!

There were four segments and if they were two minutes, I am surprised -Started with a woman Dr. who talked about what we need to do to be heart healthy and check-ups need to begin in our 20's, the second was a Dr. Phillips, who tells you howto exercise your mind - if you don't use it you will lose, 3rd - a fitness trainer, recommends six days a week, and then Alissa - she had a table, and Katie came over with the man ( I don't remember his name, he is fillingin for Matt), she got a good but quick intro, and Katie announced herself as the taster, but both did. Alissa had done a green smoothie, with added banana and strawberry - the sipped, raised eye brows and Alissa did say that youcould add more fruit if want sweeter, and Katie's comment was that it's okay, just kinda like my grass clippings. Next Alissa, showed glasses of straight cucumber juice and wow, she let you know about the slicia for improvement to nails and skins, magensium for hair, and then Alissa in her wonderful was able to get in, very professionally, and showed, which looked great on camera - spaghetti with marina sauce, mango pie and fudge balls, and got in her plug for her book as well - You Go girl, it aired about 9:30ish!

I am sooo bummed! I "TIVO"'d the show and I didn't see Alissa anywhere in it. I was thinking that the return of Discovery coverage probably showed over the time that Alissa was on. I reviewed the show and didn't see her segment. :( (sniffle)

I don't watch the today show often but when I have seen cooking and food prep segments, Katie is often a taster and she is like a picky child. She is always hesitant and I even saw her wrinkle up her nose at some ice cream once. I know it's SAD food, but what SAD eater wrinkles up their nose at ice cream? I knew before she even went to the table that Katie would have a problem with the food. She was sipping more cucumber juice at the end though. I'm just glad there was a spotlight on raw and that Alissa did such a great job presenting it.

Naw - don't look at it like that :) - just think, for me anyway - if someone had offered me a green smoothie years ago, I would have been "WHAT THE HELLEWA is this :D , however as in raw, my taste - thankfully have changed to accomodate the change.

I do think, if the food had been served first, the reaction would have been delish! However, since we were not there, I vote to wait for Alissa's commentary. I do know that sometimes when food is on the show, guest and crew do get to taste afterwards this is per my sister who appeared on the show a couple of years ago.

It was on at 7:30 for me here in Montana ( mountain time)
So it was on in the first half hour.Somehow I knew it would be early.
Alissa looked gorgeous, her hair and clothes were perfect, but it is those sparkling eyes and beautiful smile and glowy skin that you notice.
They were jumping from one person to another so quickly. Alissa suddenly appeared and I got tears in my eyes, haha.

She was brilliant. Didnt miss a beat. Her food presentation on the table looked outstanding. What a nice touch she has. She did get to mention her book which I gave her a big thumbs up for. Her communication was wonderful, though as someone else mentioned Katie cuts people off like crazy.
She is so natural in her communication, I love it.

I wouldnt worry about the grass clippings comment. Some people are ready for health and some are not. Alissa just reached the ones who are. Guess Katie's not!

I loved how Alissa explained the benefits of the cucumber juice. Now everyone with a skin issue who watched that show will be hunting her and cucumber juice down on the net. ha!

I tell you, not knowing Alissa, had I been watching that she would have been who grabbed my attention. She is fresh and engaging and saying something new.

How do you feel the experience went for you Alissa?

Meowzr, maybe you are flipping through too fast. ( never used a tivo so dont know)
ALissa was on approximately half an hour into the show. Her hair is down. She is standing by a table laid with smoothies and raw food. Its very short!
Just a thought.

Anyways, yeah Alissa! :D Can I have your autograph?

Blessings~

Ya Alissa was very good very sharp. Those quick segments must be a pain. Don’t normally watch morning TV there are so may brakes its amazing she was able to get any information out let alone the amount she did.

Well, unfortunately I won't get to see it :(

Around here, if you don't have cable, you can kiss getting local channels goodbye! But I'm still glad for you Alissa!

I missed it too - very disappointing. It sounds like Alissa did a great job - as usual. I have noticed that if Katie doesn't like the idea of what her interviewee is talking about, she just dismisses is quite rudely. I am not at all surprised. But as has been said, at least it has opened some eyes and ears to what might have otherwise been overlooked. Even a poor interview is still great publicity!

I missed it! ggrrrr, and of course we don't have tivo or whatever that is where you can record and watch it later.
So, at least I got a detailed description on what went on here.
I even set my phone alarm to remind me to turn it on, but I must have missed it while doing other stuff.

Quick question...does the cuke have to be juiced for it to do what she said the juice does? I love cukes and could eat them all day long, but just wondered if I should be juicing them too.

I wasn't able to see it, so thanks for the detailed description of what I missed!

I wonder what the point is of having someone on your show if you're going to cut them off and not give them a few minutes to explain themselves. But I can understand Katie being picky, her regular viewers probably know that about her and like having an honest opinion from someone who's used to eating what they eat. I guess that's the benefit of having two hosts. It sounds like Alissa did well in spite of Katie. She got the gist of her presentation of raw foods in there. Like someone already said, those who are ready for health will hear what she said.

BTW, I was at a bookstore yesterday and saw a book about Detox recipes by three authors, one of whom was named Aliza Cohen! But it wasn't Alissa, and I don't think it about raw foods. It sure caught my eye, though, with the name and title.

Alissa, You did FABULOUS! Whoo Hoo! You were poised and not flustered by their interruptions -- what a wonderful testimony...
You looked gorgeous and were calm, cool, and collected. I love how you got all that info in in so little time :D

I have to say, that, while Katie initially was very prissy about it all, she took a few sips after her first and said, "Cheers" and took another drink as they went to commercial. She also said it was good.

Question: Alissa, did you get a chance to speak with either of the doctors? I'm curious as to what type of conversation may have transpired :).

Congratulations! :)

Yaaayy! I was able to see it - had to "borrow" someone else's set! Yes, I agree Alissa did very well with such a short amount of time and the two hosts weren't as negative as I thought. Kate actually said, "It's actually pretty good - taste a little like my lawn cuttings - but it's good", so that wasn't too bad.

Thank you RawVeganMom for your very generous offer...that was so very sweet of you :)

I caught the show this morning central time; came on between 8:15-8:30 here while I was getting ready for work. Alissa did *awesome* and looked great and communicated great. Katie was a little annoying as you heard; but Alissa handled her well.
I think the segment was a wonderful way to "plant a seed" in cooked SAD
eaters minds.
Alissa got the info out without missing a beat. The food dishes looked amazing.
If I hadn't already heard about and do raw it would of definately caught my interest
and planted that seed. I learned more about cucumber juice than I already knew. Didn't know it was good for gray hair too!
Good Job Alissa!!
((Hugs!))
NOW COME TO DALLAS AND GIVE A SEMINAR please! he he

Alissa, you were fabulous, a real pro. You were upbeat, informative, and you looked FANTASTIC!! You are a great representative of raw foods.

I think Katie Couric must be a very SAD eater, and I think it shows in her complexion. Too bad, but her attitude didn't take anything away from your positive message!

wow, thanks SO much for putting the recorded segment on this thread! I missed it here in Michigan, thinking it would be on at 10 am, must've been 9. I thought she was going to be on longer. Bummer about that-but any mainstream exposure is GREAT!

And Alyssa, YOU, out of so many rawfood leaders, SOOOO deserve it. I have not seen anyone so hard working and committed AND able to relate to mainstream people like you. There are others who are very heart centered in this work (Esp Boutenko family), but I am very proud that you are such a high profile representative. Congrats and GOD bless!

just wanted to add, I know there are many other raw food leaders who are very heart centered too, didn't want to be stingy there! It's just that Alyssa is so no-nonsense, professional and very hard working in service. That's awesome and that's what a leader does.

I just saw the link that RawVeganMom posted so I was able to watch the clip of it. Being hearing impaired, I didn't understand most of what they were saying (me and closed captioning :p )

Did anyone......catch Katie.... saying, i think, "yuck" but kinda covering her mouth at the same time right after she put the cucumber juice down?

No, she must have said it quietly. I saw that she kinda made a face, and then said, 'it could use some salt.' But, you know, if I was a SAD eater looking to improve me health, I'd expect to have to get used to the food, I'd expect fresh food to take some getting used to. And Katie's reaction wasn't so bad, really, it wasn't to her liking (no surprise there, being a SAD eater, and picky at that!) but she didn't make a disgusted face, either. Not one that would have turned me off to a raw diet if that show was my first exposure to it.

You're right. She did better than I initially thought that she would. It hasn't turned many people away, either. My mom, for one, mentioned that she saw "an Alissa Cohen" on the show and was wondering if I knew who she was. lol "yeah, mom. she's the one I got all the raw recipes from!" She was pleasantly surprised and said, "wow, she really looks fantastic. My ears perked up when she was talking about how the stuff can/will change your hair back to its natural color"

Screw that lady katie. One thing I dont understand is why they didnt tast the fudge and pie first. Obviously those would be the best tasting to SAD eaters. So the first 2 they didnt much care for... And they didnt even try the rest which im sure they would have liked. this is what suprised the poop outta me...which was good though, for i was a little constipated.

Alissa, you were WONDERFUL! I, too, was disappointed in Katie lady - did not think she was a good hostess. But Alissa, you got an amazing amount of info in, in such a short time (and looked great doing it)! I hope this at least prompts other shows to come-a-callin' for you. Wouldn't Oprah be great? Let us know what transpires from here, as this was just a stepping stone to bigger things!

First of all that two people who'd never even tried something like this were willing to do so was a major boon to raw food. Yanno, people have their own tastes. Katie did say it was good and said what she thought was amusing about grass clippings. Things like that come from background energy fields. That was probably what she felt she was "supposed" to say. If she were more conscious she "might" have responded differently. Who is to know? I know "I'VE" made comments which I wished I'd not said until after they'd come out of my mouth.

After tasting the cuke juice she mentioned it needs salt. Personal taste. My husband still uses salt. Both of them said it was good. They'd not expected the drinks to be so because they were not use to drinking something so alive and luscious looking. Dead brown is more to their understanding.

All in all, I thought every thing and everyone did well. People are not going to always respond as we wish which is why we need to learn to respond in the moment. I feel Alissa maintained her awareness and didn't react to what was said yet did what she was there to do. EXCELLENT presentation in my view.
