I haven't the foggiest idea. I've NEVER counted calories. Seems like a waste of time to me.

If this is any help to you, i am a lifelong calorie counter and therefore a lifelong overweight person.
Since doing raw/vegan lifestyle (and still learning) i have quit counting calories for good. I feel so liberated. I eat what "feels" good or what i crave, and this seems more natural to me. I'm guessing that the more raw, natural, unprocessed foods you eat the less you have to think about calories. :))

I don't count calories anymore (though I did for a short while) but I do keep a loose record of what I'm eating on my RFT blog. Plugging those things into FitDay usually sits me anywhere from 700 to 1500 calories per day. On days when I stick with all whole foods I tend to be on the lower end of the caloric intake. When I start adding smoothies, prepared and/or dehydrated dishes I end up on the higher end. Either way though, I don't really care. I'm eating pretty much what I want, when I want as long as it's raw with only a few minor restrictions (like not eating after dark).

eating fresh fruits and leafy greens i average about 2000-2400 calories a day. i'm a 23 year old female and walk about an hour a day and sometimes do a little running or biking...
i started counting calories after i stopped eating nuts and seeds to see if i was "getting enough". now that i'm eating more simply and getting more calories i feel wonderful!

Ever since raw foods entered my life, I don't do the calorie counting any longer. I eat when hungry and keep mental tabs in my head what I have eaten during that day, if I remember, if not, I don't sweat it.

when i hear people talking about calories, i liken it to losing the grasp of foreign language fluency. studying it for years, becoming super fluent, then moving away from the country of origin and losing it completely. i tell you it's been so long, i've lost all comprehension of understanding calories. i would need a translator now. :p

I don’t see how counting calories can be a negative thing but it all depends on your goals. A lot of people go raw because they want to look and feel healthy… That can be very subjective. What does it mean to look and feel healthy? Some people think 15-20% body fat makes them feel and look healthy some might think a body fat between 7-10% makes them feel and look their best. Before asking how many calories people eat determine the way you want to look and feel and then find people that fit that mold and then ask them. Everyone has their opinion but most of those opinions should be discarded because they won’t apply to your specific needs.
Good luck in whatever your goals maybe!

Hi,
usually sits me anywhere from 700 to 1500 calories per day
Are you loosing or remaining your weight with that intake?
I'm asking because I wonder if the body will adjust to the comparable low calory intake and use it more effectively. To me, it seems that you would have to eat a lot in fruits and greens to cover the recommended amount of calories.

Hi,
Are you loosing or remaining your weight with that intake?

I've been raw for 5 months and have lost 40 lbs. I started out eating a LOT more than what I do now though. Lots of dehydrated foods and "whole meals" (main course + 2 sides) in one sitting. My body seems to have regulated to need far less food at this point. Make no mistake though, there are definitely days when I eat a TON of food and probably get twice that amount of calories. It's just that on an average day I'm between 700 and 1500.
Take a look at my RFT blog to see what I'm eating on a daily basis. Basically, I get up at 5am and usually have 16oz. of water before doing some sort of exercise (walking, rebounding, pilates etc.). Then around 9:30 or 10:00 I have some fruit. I'll usually eat between 1 and 2 pieces of one type of fruit. Later I'll have salad, a lettuce wrap with veggies and avocado or more fruit and then at dinner I'll have more of the same or some sort of prepared raw vegan dish. I don't do the whole "main course with two side dishes" thing anymore. Usually I just pick one thing and have enough to fill me up in one sitting.
I use the terms breakfast, lunch and dinner very loosely too, by the way, because I don't really eat my meals at those pre-determined times. Instead, I just eat whenever I'm hungry.
It's really not all that hard to take in calories on a raw vegan diet. Fruits are high in calories as are fats like nuts, avocados and oils. Vegetables and greens are low in calories but typically a raw vegan will eat more fruit than vegetables anyway.
