I want to start a small kitchen garden (my space is limited) what would be some easy and spaceable vegetables and hetbs to start with?:)
what supplies would i need (something eco-friendly and frugal)?:D

ide def grow basil . fresh its great , plus its aroma great too

i also like curly parsley in my dressings / marinades with lemon
and garlic , if you do ide grow it

can get both cheap at willhite . guaranteed willhites got cheapest seeds
on earth , these amounts your getting say for the lettuces are 5000 seeds .
which goes a long ways . the spinach amount is 500 , near same with the kale / arugula . all toll this seeds order would cover an area of say around 15' x 15' with a big batch of mixed greens

also since going raw i only grow cherry tomatoe cuz they taste better than biggies

i suggest turning straw into your soil

its slows soil compaction (giant factor)
, enriches soil . and when placed on
surface around plants it holds moisture in
and keeps weeds out

Roman has you covered but I would plant things I could make a Smoothie with, Collords etc. You don't have to plant all of them, plant a few and just pick the leaves off.

My space is very tight ( i can hold about 7 small containters/pots) on a shelf i have in my kitchen.

Yes, supplies i mean seeds, soil, tools etc.. to maintain and keep growing more

I like all veggies :D The veggies i am interested in growing are Tomatoes, lettuce (if possible) and any suggestions you may want to add :) (I am not a professional green thumb), to know what others veggies can be grown indoors. Also some herbs such as parsley, cilantro, mint, rosemary, and anything else you can add to the mix. lol lol

any chance you have a balcony or a front step or any outside space? or at least a really sunny window? the stuff will grow far better outside or getting good sun, unless you are going to install grow lights. basil grows well on a windowsill. i dont know about growing tomatoes and lettuce etc inside unless you install grow lights. Or even a friend/neighbor who has a balcony or yard that would let you put some pots of stuff there so it could get more sun? also, if youre interested, alot of places have allotments you can rent out to grow stuff

I do have a window that gets a lot of morning sun, i was thinking i can put a small shelf there (just need to rearrange a few items and voila a little sunny garden) :)

mannnn, it should be illegal to build apartments without porches or balconies :( good luck :) basil seems to do well in pots. OH ya know whats pretty and you can eat and will live in a sunny window? Calendula flowers and also nasturtiam flowers. you can eat the petals in salads from the calendula and the flowers and young leaves from the nasturtiam. these grew for a full year for me before dying and even had some flowers over the winter :) BORAGE is beautiful too (edible flower) though i dont know if it will grow in a pot on a windowsill.
you could also try chickweed, (giggle :P ) that seems to grow anywhere outside and is yummy.

i dont think they sell sprouting seeds at all ,
and some of their seeds are treated so no
dont go there for sprouting seeds

i never looked for sprouting seeds on line because
the shipping would bump up price too much

i asked at local natural grocer type places and
talked to people running the departments where
they sell grains / dry beans / seeds / etc and asked
if they could order me specific seeds

plus here in suburban detroit theres alot of stores
including places such as bulk food stores that carry
alfalfa / quinoa / buckwheat / wheat / mung / etc
so it was easy for me

maybe search amazon.com for sprouting seeds

oh i once got oats seed from that i think organic sun farms (www.sunorganicfarms.com ?), something like that . i'll remember it shortly . and i think i saw a place in northwest , idaho ? , purcell farms that maybe has sprouting seeds

for me currently im totally outta sprouts and into my garden coming in :cool:

a few weeks away from fresh organic greens for the following 6 months :)
