Hello everyone...

This is my first time on this board, or any board for that matter. I'm also new to eating raw foods. I stumbled onto a book while browsing in the "cookbook" section of Barnes & Noble! I don't think it was supposed to be there, but fortunately for me, it was. I "heard" a ring of truth in it as I read, so I bought it. Now, in my search for a spiral slicer, I stumbled onto this site. I feel like I'm stumbling my way through this whole thing, but I sure am having fun! There are two main reasons for me wanting to try the raw foods lifestyle: 1. I turned the big 40 this year and want to feel fabulous inside and out for a long time to come. My mom died young of heart disease and I realize it's time to make my health top priority. And, 2. I've been recovered from a severe eating disorder for several years now, but my health hasn't really recovered, due to years of abuse. It's time to heal. Any advice or help will be appreciated. Best of luck to all of you, where ever you are!

Stumbling is how I got to find out about raw in 1997. See, it was just meant to be.
Welcome here ;)

Hi. Another raw Texan here too! We live just outside of Houston - where are you? It helped me quite a bit to get Alissa's book in the beginning because she has SO MANY really easy and delicous recipes. I then went and bought two others just for variety, but I would definitely recommend getting her book.

Along with this support board, journaling, and some great friends I have made here, a also got in touch with a raw-vegan Yahoo! group in my area that meets for potlucks monthly. Most of us are families with children so we meet at parks so the kids can play. It really helps to know other people following the same path as you. Most of my friends and some of my family think I am a little crazy. 30 pounds lighter crazy is just fine with me!!

Btw, I stumbled over raw foods too, but I believe we are are all led there - some just go a little more clumsily... :)

Best wishes on your new raw journey - welcome!
Anna

Wow, all this support is great! It's so nice to hear from fellow Texans too. I'm in Lubbock, Texas. Thanks so much for all your replies. I'm a bit computer illiterate so I'm still trying to figure out how to post replies, etc.
Again, thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Hi Evette - Welcome from a fellow 40 year old Texan! :D I stumbled into raw myself after my dad had a heart attack in April (read cardiac arrest - he died twice!). Fortunately, he had been relatively healthy prior and is doing well thanks to a holistic doctor. I'm also concerned about my health and the care of my heart. As for the spiral slicer and other raw food handy gadgets, check out your local thrift shops - I found my spiral slicer at one for a whole buck!
