Hey guys,

so I'm really on the fence as to buying a vita-mix 5200 or a blendtec. One of the supposed-pros of the VM is being able to make hot soups. I'm wondering, though, if the VM heats things up too quickly, presenting a problem with keeping foods raw. Like with raw nut butter for example, this takes a little time to make and I'm wondering if the nut butter ends up warm and is therefore not truly raw anymore? Maybe it only gets warm but not over 110 degrees F.

Also, I was wondering if the wet jug of the VM 5200 is adequate for grains/beans/nut butters, or if people feel like you need the dry jug and blades. Any information about this would be appreciated as well as anything else that might make the BT versus VM decision easier.

Thanks,

Jeffrey

The Vita-Mix does not heat up quickly its the RPMs that eventually makes it heat up. Anything will heat up when it is allowed to run for a while. There are lots of tricks for making Nut Butter, like using Frozen Nuts or letting it rest in between. You can also start them in the Food Processor and then adding them to the Vita-Mix. I don't make Nut Butters, I enjoy the Nuts by themselves to Much.

I have both blending Jars but only use one. I find the Wet Jar works fine for all My needs.

I have a VM 5200 and I've never been concerned that it's overheating my foods (of course I'm new to raw eating ;) ).

I've not made nut butters, but would like to!! Do I need to soak the nuts first before you grind them up?
