Hi all,
I just returned from a trip to the Bay Area and I got a chance to finally see what gourmet raw food is like! My brother lives a few blocks away from Cafe Gratitude and he agreed to take me there (and it was painful for him - he's a die-hard meat eater!)
The atmosphere was amazing, a very community feeling. You don't get seated at separate tables, but with whatever table has enough seats available. We were seated with two women who were vegans (though not raw foodists) and visiting from the Midwest. I ordered a pizza (delicious, though very different from what we usually think of with a pizza) and my brother's girlfriend ordered a grain bowl which she said was great. For dessert, we ordered the strawberry layer cake (which was very good) and an almond cream truffle (which was divine! My first try of raw chocolate and it was wonderful).
Afterwards, my brother's girlfriend and I poked around the books and pamphlets they had for sale. They have pretty much every possible raw food guru available (including Alissa's book :D). I bought "Raw Food Revolution" which I'm reading now and planning on starting the 21 day plan tomorrow.
In the end, I bought a raw "Almond Joy" treat for my mom to try, since she's also into raw food and she loved it!
All in all, very good and prices weren't over the roof (though probably a bit pricier than you might find in a restaurant of such quality).
If all goes well for me, I might be living in SF at the end of this year and my place won't be too far from Cafe Gratitude either. I'm planning on making it a mainstay ;).
