Has anyone ever had worms in their produce? Just yesterday I was talking to my mother (who lives in a different city than I do), and she was telling me that she found worms in her heads of lettuce as she was washing them. She ended up throwing them out as she was concerned. She called Whole Foods, where she bought them and they weren't too surprised, as they said it happens in organic produce.

Then today interestingly, I found some tiny worms in my bok choy. I also bought the bok choy from Whole Foods, although a different WF from my mother as we live in different cities. I had chopped the bok choy then left them in a nice container in the fridge to marinate, and they were sitting for a few days... so I was just going to toss it out since it's old. The covered container is still sitting on my kitchen counter, as I need to throw it out, but am afraid to in case some of the worms or their eggs fall out. I know internal worms can enter through the soles on one's feet, and I stay barefoot at home. I don't want to throw out the container though, as it is one of my favorite bowls... so I'll have to figure out how to get that into the trash without anything falling out.

Before yesterday and today, neither one of us had seen worms, and now both of us have.

Found worms three times in corn. Now I hate to buy it with the husks on. Found a worm once in a pepper. I don't know how it got in there. Saw no holes in it or anything. Found slugs on lettuce. And bugs on all sorts of things.

I love it when there are worms in my produce. That means that it is fresh and organically grown. Worms are far better at knowing what's good for them than humans are, lol. Just wash your lettuce, the worms stay in the wash water. Pour it in your toilet, if you don't want it in the kitchen sink, or better yet, water your lawn with it. Worms are good, chemicals are bad!:D

The man that lives next door to me is an organic grower. He says that it is a very good sign of produce to find worms in it.
It is natural.
These are worms that grow in produce. They are not intestinal worms. They are an entirely different animal. These guys could not grow inside of you so stop worrying about that aspect of it. Even if you ate them you would not be in any danger (not nice but no danger).
We share our planet with so many other creatures. It is not ours alone. We have to learn to accept some interaction. I am one person who has had some difficulty doing this but I have improved a lot lately. I am aware that we would not have any food without them and even if we did have food it would be of no use to us without the creatures living in our gut that break it down.
Wash the produce that the worms are in and then eat it. You can not expect a lettuce to grow in a field and not have some creatures crawl over it. Some just stay a little too long.

This ^^

Just like the presence of frogs is a great indicator of the health of a body of water, the presence of worms is an excellent indicator of the health of the soil the plant was grown in. The healthier the soil, the more likely it has more trace elements, minerals and other good stuff nutrition wise.

So congratulations, you are the proud recipient of a fantastically nutritional plant!

Now all you need to do is get the worms out!

Hint, check organic produce CAREFULLY, I do this as I too am squirmy with worms and bugs in my food.
