No, I don't mean just anyone losing weight is ridiculous..I mean me losing weight is ridiculous. Two full days on raw, and I lost 3 and a half pounds, going from just over 100 lbs to to 90's. (I only keep track of my weight becasue I'm training for a marathon, I have to weigh myself before and after each run so I can see how much water I lost and need to hydrate myself)
Anyway, that's ridiculous on my 5'5" frame. Do you think that rapid weight loss is normal in the begining?

That was definitely my experience, and I've heard it to be true of other people too. I lost 15-20 pounds in the first month or so. Now I've stablized at 115.

Yup! Very common. Figure you're probably losing much gunk from you intestines. Also, make sure you are getting enough water. How are your bm's? Any different than before raw?

Also some of that could very well be water weight. If you ate foods with a high salt content that could be it. Don't worry. You didn't mention you felt ill from it so just go with the flow.

I was just thinking about this yesterday when I weighed myself. When I first embarked upon my raw journey, I was like 135 lbs. I eventually dropped to like 120 (which I can't even rememer at what point in my life I was that weight - the smallest I remember was 128 in 12th grade - I'm 5'4" btw) but it didn't happen drastically, but it happened and it bothered me a little.
Now, I'm comfortably at 127. Sometimes it ranges bet. 124 and 128 depending on what I'm eating.
All that to say, your body WILL make neccessary adjustments. You will lose some as your body cleanses and as Alissa says in her book, "sheds the false body" you will begin to rebuild new, healthier tissue, etc. and get to your body's ideal weight (which may or may not be your ideal weight in your own mind if you know what I mean).
We have a member here, Nutrimom, who told me once her metabolism has always been high. She is also 5'4" (I think) and weighs around what you are weighing now but she looks great! Not scrawny or emaciated...it's just her body's ideal weight range.
How ridiculous it is depends on your frame as well. I'm shorter than you (5'2") but I couldn't even get down that low. I have a medium frame and hit the weights hard, so I'm very muscular. If I were to weigh that little I would need to be checked for disease. I only ever weighed what you weigh when I was a dancer and anorexic. On the other hand, there are taller women with smaller muscles and smaller bones who look great really skinny.
I would say that unless you're starving yourself and not feeling well, you're doing okay. Just be sure to add (or keep up) with your strength training while training for the marathon because you don't want the weight loss to actually be muscle loss. Good luck with your marathon (I'm training for a half marathon right now and I would LOVE to drag around less weight, LOL).

Some of my family thinks my weight is starting to get ridiculous. I'm only 5 ft tall and last I checked, I was 109 lbs. (which is not a bad weight for someone my height. Supposedly, the ideal weight is 104 lbs) My Dad said I should start eating more. Huh? I already told him I eat a ton of food. And I'm not even trying to lose weight. It's just happening. My Mom was concerned, too and told me not to go too far with my weight loss - and I keep trying to tell them that I'm not trying to lose weight. I'm just working on toning my excess (that I know is going to come off without any tummy tuck surgery) and I'm just eating really, really healthy, and that's what is making a difference. I can understand where they might be concerned as I am now in a size 0 with most things and between a 0 and 2 in jeans because it depends on the manufacturer (I had to go buy a few new outfits because everything in my closet was too big for me). My family probably thinks I'm just too thin when they hear how little I weigh (haven't seen them in a year). I asked my dh if he thought I was too thin (because he doesn't want me too thin as you all know) and he said 'no'...but I LOVE being this thin. (most people consider a size 0 way too thin) It feels good. It feels healthy. It feels right. And that's what matters to me.

I was about 280 starting raw and about 215 at the end of 2 months. Rapid weight loss is normal. Well, I'm assuming it's normal. I have to tell you, I was damned happy about it.

Swingbolder ~ What did you eat that made you lose the weight. I need to lose around 15 pounds and I am not having much luck. I would love to know what you did!

I've been losing weight too! I'm 5'1" and weigh 75 lbs. I was at 80. But I think more of it has to do with my overly busy schedule. I don't have too much time to prepare foods so I've been juicing a lot and doing smoothies. I've started doing a lot of pate burrito type things.......they are heavy and caloric. But I've been cheating some since if I lose too much weight, I can't think straight or function well. Hope others reply!!

Are you sure of your height? or of your weight? Because at that weight and height it sounds dangerous, if you are not thinking right, your body is not getting enough food. carry more food with you where you go. Great thing about raw is that your can just grab food- " FAST FOOD" with NUTRITION is what RAW is!
Keep at work or car -a plastic storage box with top and place in it: a plate , a bowl, a knife, a fork and a spoon, sea salt, honey, olive oil and apple cider vinegar-already at work with some dish soap to clean up after in sink. Then all you have to do is bring in the fresh fruit or veggie for breakfast/lunch/dinner from home (or a local market on way to work or on lunch) - If there is a fridge then you could bring almond milk too. If not, in winter, your car may be if it's cold enough.
Bring in a couple ziploks of nuts, bring in some fresh avocado. Juice in the evening if mornings are too rush and grab the bottle of juice out the door. Put in a cooler with ice block if no fridge.
YOU SAY: I've started doing a lot of pate burrito type things.......they are heavy and caloric. But I've been cheating some since if I lose too much weight, I can't think straight or function well.
I SAY: If it is raw it is not cheating, don't worry about heavy and caloric. You will not gain a substantial amount if it is raw anyway!

I have to suggest here, since a few of you are worried, a need for more information on the raw diet. Read and gather knowledge. Check out many others experiences on the raw diet. With more information, you will understand what is happening within your body.
You will understand, it is perfectly normal to drop weight as your body adjusts to clean, living, enzyme and nutrient rich food. It is cleansing! It is cleaning up your blood stream, emptying your fat cells of stored toxins, repairing organs and cells, rebuilding tissue, clearing out stored rubbish throughout your intestines and colon, changing your ph and so much more.
So as it clears out the old harmful rubbish, your weight drops. That rubbish takes up space! As it begins to rebuild with the living fuel you are giving it, your body will then balance out at the weight ideal for you. A true weight, not a false, clogged, full of toxins and mucous and stagnated, undigested gunk weight.
So, please dont worry! Thoroughly inform yourself about this process. It's a miraculous process that will lead you to a whole new level of being.
The scale is such a very limited and often misrepresenting measurement.
Let your health be your meter.
Best wishes~

Is there a point though when one becomes too thin? I can't afford to lose my job or to drop out of school. A friend of mine has advised me to add some beans or grains to my diet. I was adding some fats but sometimes too much fat feels too heavy for me and from what I know, too much fat isn't good for anyone. Too much fruit sends me on bloodsugar swings. Any advice? I've been working/going to school 80 hours per week. I've been dragging lately and sometimes I don't feel well. Some of it is lack of sleep too. Trying to eat as much as I can but I don't have long eating breaks. I've even grabbed power sandwiches (tofu) and hummus sandwiches lately which aren't raw. Then I feel like I need to pass out and sleep!! Which is kinda good since 100% raw gives me insomnia too for some reason. I want to be raw, but some people are telling me that it may be dangerous for me.

Beanie, try adding lots of greens to your diet. Put them in shakes by throwing in some fruit of your choice, water and lots of greens. Taste your drink and decide if it needs another piece of fruit (if not sweet enough) or more greens (if it is too sweet). Make a little extra and pour into a container that you can carry with you. Drink the remainder when you can throughout the day. Greens help stabilize blood sugar and helps with the natural occuring acid in your stomach.
Blessings.

I lost 3-4 pounds in first month. If you add some raw nuts and pumpkin seeds to your diet that will also boost the calories. I was keying my food into fitday and found with fruit and veggies I was eating 800 cals a day. A serving of seeds and nuts put me over 1100 and now I stopped dropping weight. Also add some organic Hemp Powder or hemp nuts.

Long term though, is it OK to eat such a high fat diet? Its not recommended, but I don't feel so great eating too much sweet fruit. So its either add grains or fats. I do feel good eating the extra fat but sometimes it does feel heavy. Not lethargicas the grains do though but my brain seems to need it to funtion at its best.
