For those of you who use kale, are you mostly using it in juices or smoothies? Or eating it just as it is? I've never eaten it raw before.

I bought it to use in smoothies but I actually really like it raw with lime and soy sauce or braggs(I know it's not great but I'm finishing this bottle and not buying it again..) or nama shoyu. I think it's a little like raw cabbage - tough and tasty.

I put it in smoothies and make kale chips in the dehydrator. I also put it on salads, but I chop it pretty fine because I don't like having to chew so much. :o

I have been using it in salads with other mixed greens. I hear it is great in green smoothies too.
Kale salad - YUMMY! I break it into smallish pieces and remove the hard stems. Fill a bowl with what looks about twice the amount you want to eat. Pour over a tablespoon or so of olive oil and sprinkle on a good pinch of salt. Then massage the kale with your hands. It will turn darker in colour and shrink in volume. The longer you massage the better it tastes. Then add other items such as olives or chopped avocados and cherry tomatoes etc.
I find it a bit too strong in smoothies but may be I put too much in!
Tonight I made a nice curry with it - blend up the kale in the food processor, then add in tahini, miso, curry powder or garam masala, a small amount of red onion and a small amount of chilli and blend again. It went very nice with parsnip rice for tea and is based on Kate Woods spinach curry.
Oh and red kale makes a fantastic dark chocolate smoothie though with banana, water, cacao powder, cashews (I think I added them!) and dates.
I love kale!

The texture might take a little getting used to in salads, but it softens up with dressings or when 'massaged' with avocado or oil.
Last week I got some ears of corn. I cut off the kernels and put them in a bowl. Then I cut up the kale in small pieces and added them to the corn. I made a vinaigrette dressing and let it sit for a bit to soften the kale and it was so good!

One nice way to eat kale beside smoothie, juice and making delicious chips is to make a salad but there is a technique that you need to do.
Once your removed the hard part of the kale the steam (not sure the spelling), take a bunch of kale leaves, pill them on top of the others and roll them. Then use a good knife and slice the roll in small piece. Repeat with the remaining leaves.
Once done, place in a boll. Add a little bit of salt and olive oil. Then use both your hands, grab the kale and squeeze it (it is call massaging the kale). Do this couple time, until the kale soften up. It will look steam but it makes is tender. Then add your favorite ingredients.
Suggestion
Gratted carrot, black olive, avocado, any favorite dressing or simply eat it plain.
Enjoy!

Tonight I made a nice curry with it....
Your curry sounds great, and I am glad to see miso here. I hadn't looked into whether it was raw or not. I'm not 100% raw, but I like to know what is considered raw and what isn't.

I LOVE a Kale salad, but never in my life thought I would. The trick is in the massaging and he dressing (add a bit of lemon juice). I think I'll make more for my lunch tomorrow!! :) :)

I don't particularly like it in smoothies and I've never had it in juice but I LOVE kale salad.
Fill a big bowl full of chopped and de-stemmed kale. Massage with olive oil and sea salt. Sprinkle on some black sesame seeds. Dehydrate for about an hour (or you can let it just sit and marinate a bit, works both ways). Halve a bunch of cherry tomatoes into the bowl, mix it up and chow down.

I can't find plain Miso, even at my whole food type grocery store :(
Even the packets they sell, have a bunch of other ingredients in it.
Where can I buy Miso, do I need to order off the Internet?
Thanks!!

did you look in the refrigerated section? It should be at any good health food store- maybe you can ask them to order it for you?

I've used it in my smoothies before. Couldn't really taste it tough. I like my smoothies more on the fruity side with "mild" tasting green vegetables added in. I want to try kale chips. I have a dehydrator so I need to learn how to make them....I keep hearing how good they are!:D

OK so after you massage the avocado into the kale do you all lick your hands? I don't just mean your fingers!! I stand at the sink and lick my whole hand. Can't waste that awesome avocado:D

I just had kale chips (EVOO + baked + salt..) for the first time a couple days ago, and it is unbelievably good. In a blindfolded taste-test I bet it'd be hard to tell the difference.

Mmm I love lacinato kale as a salad. For smoothies I usually use green kale...mostly because it's generally cheaper than lacinato :P

My girlfriend and her boyfriend are obsessed with their tomato kale chips. They are so simple I am going to give them a try wednesday!
ripped kale in bite sit pieces (curly green)
tomato
lemon juice
Let marinate in fridge for 1hr min.
Scoop it out onto the dehydrator sheets and dehydrate till crispy.
Apparently they are like ketchup chips.
I'll let you know thursday :p
