I thought someone told me this is not good to eat. I smelled it and it smells okay.
Should the meat of a young coco be totally white? Is pink bad?

I've eaten it pink, but my girlfriend won't. She says that means it's contaminated in some way, though, to be honest, I don't remember the details.
I haven't been much help, have I? :o

I took a raw class a few months ago and the teacher said that coconut meat is pink when it's young and turns white as it ages. He said it's fine to eat both ways. Personally, I like the taste and texture when it's white, but I'll still eat it pink. Hope that helps...

In the seminar we went to with Tonya Zavasta, she said that when the coconut turns pink it is bad.

Ahhh, now I have conflicting information. Thanks for everyone's feedback. Greengirl, just curious who you were talking about?

Well, here is one more.
I have been told that when the OUTER part of the coconut is pink on the bottom it is bad, but I have never heard of the inner meat ever being pink.
They say it is bad, if it tastes soapy, but if it tastes sweet and like coconut it is okay.
So, I would go by the taste.

I got my info from a local raw chef. Trust your nose!

pink or purple coconut meat or water is bad, just try tasting some. it tastes gross! I think the same thing about black bananas but some people prefer them that way...
