Even when I am eating really high raw etc., I still have dry skin. I drink LOADS of water because i generally get quite thirsty regardless of the fact I am eatin lots of supposedly hydrating fruit and veg. I get my fats from raw olive oil and sometimes nuts or avocados. In the past few days this has got worse. My skin is getting really dry on my hands and near my nails and I was out with my friends today, wearing mineral make-up and one of them commented when I said my face felt kind of dry that it did, indeed, look really dry. It was even kind of sore, earlier, not now. And my lips are sooo chapped. I don't use and of that petroleum jelly crap though.
Any suggestions? Actually I just looked at my fingers right now and it is worse than I thought...It looks like I have a skin condition where my fingers bend.

I would add some Celtic sea salt to help you retain some water. I have had this problem to the point of my skin bleeding. I do so much better with more sodium in my diet. You could include more celery and Nama Shoyu if you didn't want to add salt. Hope things work out!

Thank you, I will try adding celery to my smoothie every morning and snacking on it too.

I tried massaging some pure coconut oil onto my hands and skin where there was dryness and exfoliating with brown sugar, it seemed to work, for the mean time. Anyone do this? I know that they put sugar in a lot of scrubs so.. I thought, I'm not gonna eat it but may as well use it! :)?

Irish Vegan Girl,
You said you won't eat the sugar from the coconut oil mixture (of course), but would you eat coconut oil? I know there is some lauric acid controversy with coconut oil, but is that why you won't eat it? I'm actually trying an experiment (another one, have done many over the yrs, LOL) by increasing my uptake of coconut, coconut milk, and coconut oil etc. It seems? like my rosacea gets better with it. Only just started and had this hypothesis, so it's too early to tell.
My skin is dry on my face due to rosacea.
And what about your thyroid? Have you checked it? Hypothyroidism (low thyroid) will affect your skin - make it dry. It can also make you feel cold, have a slow heartbeat, have heavier periods, and in bad cases, your hair can fall out. A preliminary test should include a high sensitivity TSH, Free T4 and Free T3. Maybe? even an autoimmune test or two. .
And the celtic sea salt in combo with some Himalayan, may also be a good idea, as mentioned, not only for the water retention, but also for the minerals.

I would do Alissa's liver cleanse if I were you. Skin problems are usually due to a poorly functioning liver.

Oh yes I would eat coconut oil and I do sometimes, but I much prefer to eat olive oil.
I'm going to buy those salts next time I'm at the store, are they expensive?
Yeah I guess it wouldn't hurt to check my thyroid.
Thanks

Yeah I really want to do one of those cleanses I just don't know if I have the will power to do a liver cleanse yet. I don't know if I am in the right frame of mind, but, if that is possibly the issue then maybe I should start to have a think about it.
Thank you

Doing the liver cleanses is a good suggestion...hey, they're always good, and yes I have done Alissa's liver/gall bladder cleanses sev'l times......also did raw juice fasts - the longest was six weeks ---still have rosacea that flares for no apparent reason. Sigh.....
And Irish Vegan girl, the liver cleanse is no big deal at all....barely requires much willpower IMO. And I know I'm definitely WEIRD, but I actually enjoyed the grapefruit juice olive oil mix - I added a tiny bit of honey though......

I just thought of this, I know you said you were adding more coconut things, why not try buying some coconut water and see what that does. It is supposed to be VERY re hydrating.

Coconut oil applied on the skin and consumed has been great for my skin.

Mary Kay, i don't know if you tried or not, but putting that on my face made either my rosacea or seb derm worse! i totaly flushed big time. bright red face and face became heated. i won't do it again on my face. lol.
but coconut oil in general... i love to eat it. i don't eat it that often though. and it has definately healed cracks and sores i've gotten on my skin. i'm not that prone for it to happen.

Pixie,
Thanks. Nope, the coconut oil on my skin does not bother me at all - may even help, though only slightly.
I'm also thinking it's MORE than just coconut oil, but adding the whole coconut, so your suggestion of the coconut water is a good one IMO...you know more of the synergism of the whole food --so I'm trying to locate a source of young coconuts in my area.
Meanwhile, I'm thoroughly enjoying coconut milk made from dried coconut. And adding coconut to other things as well ---AND more coconut oil.
And re the rosacea....very interesting, but I have heard that sometimes when an autistic child gets the flu or some illness, their autism decreases slightly....By the same token, when I've gotten the flu, my skin has cleared up BEAUTIFULLY!!!
This makes me think that there's something in my body that's fighting something else, which is why I'm thinking heavy metals. And while my body's focusing on the flu, it's ignoring fighting what's causing the rosacea. More of my theory is that I have a weak vascular system from yrs of stress.....I also have recurrent shingles, which are also nerve endings freaking out --kind of like rosacea. Although neither one is a serious case, I still have them and want to get to the root of their cause......
Sigh
Thanks again,
Mary Kay
