I am wondering if any of you fine folks have ever had acid reflux, and how were you able to eat a raw diet? What about diverticulitis?

My mom has lots of health issues and we were discussing the raw diet...she has a LONG list of foods she cannot eat, due to diverticulitis and acid reflux. She also has celiac disease. She also claims that she is allergic to most fruits and some vegetables, and many fruits and veggies give her horrible stomach pains. She cannot understand how this GOOD food doesn't agree with her. Of course anything with nuts or seeds she cannot eat because of the diverticulitis. But about fruits and veggies making her sick....I had no idea what to say. I dunno?

As far as being allergic...avocados make my mouth itch so I avoid them. I think this same type of thing happens to her. Anyone else react to fruit or veggies this way? I wonder if being on the raw diet will change this itchy stuff? I would like to eat avocados. :) But as far as my Mom, I wish I could help her somehow. She still eats things she is not supposed to be eating...but literally there is almost nothing that doesn't make her ill. Every time I see her there is a new food on her "no" list. I think eats a lot of canned soup because it's one of the few things she doesn't react to, which...makes NO sense whatsoever to me!!!

I went on a lot more than I'd planned here, but any thoughts are appreciated.

what about starting with veggie juices or smoothies?

I think those are the simplest and best things that anyone could start with to get their bodies the nutrients it wants and use to the fruit and veggies without having to do so much work on breaking it all down. Also easier to just swallow then to have to chew and then swallow ;) of course forcing things are never good.
Add some enzymes?
Of course her still eating things she shouldn't be eating won't get her anywhere..

I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.
I have never experienced acid reflux or diverticulitis or celiac so I'm no help there.

Hope she gets better.

From what I understand, acid reflux is very much an individual thing. I have it. I can eat tomatoes, onions and peppers with no problems. But I know many people who can't! One woman I know can't even have salad.

I also have OAS (oral allergy syndrome). That means my body mistakes some foods for pollen. It is often worse during the season when that pollen is heavily in the air and for some people only applies to the raw food and not the cooked. I have it with some nuts.

Most fruits do not set well with me. I don't know if this is OAS or something else. Some give me blisters in my mouth and some just seem to sit in my stomach causing horrible pains.

I also have gastroparesis. That's delayed stomach emptying.

Bottom line, I think, if a food gives you pain or other problems, don't eat it!

I just read yesterday that eating an Apple before bedtime would stop it but it was a special kind of Apple and it would cost you to find out what kind. It is Good advice to get a handle on it because it can lead to esaff Cancer.

I'll post the article if you like...

a tablespoon of unpasteurized apple cider vinegar stopped my heartburn within days. Not sure if it would help with acid reflux. Is it the same thing?? Worth a try though.
