Ok, went to the HFS and was explaining the vegan/raw choice i have made and that im totally wasted the day after i go running. i feel creaky and just over all bad. sometimes for 2 days. we talked over different things and she reccomended Chlorella. (i had it written down and showed her that, and a few other things i wanted to know about.) so she was like yea, just try it! its good stuff. so i bought some and i was wonderig have any of you tried it? and what was the outcome?
its 10 pills a day, but im going to take 3, 3 times a day.
with meals? or without? any ideas?
thanks!

I take chlorella everyday and have been for a long time. I love it. (not the taste but what it does for me :p )
I take a heaping tablespoon of it in powder every morning.
I take a bunch of the pills in the mornings as well and keep a small bottle of pills in my purse for while I'm out and about.
For me I was having issues with my small intestine. One of the main concerns was constipation.
I use the powder more since I find it to be the most effective for this specific concern.
I go for regular check ups to see my naturopath. He checks my levels of toxins (circulating and stored). Since I've taken chlorella there has been a huge difference. My toxin levels have gone down sooo much!
I workout regularly and find chlorella to be a good source of protein.

I’ve been taking both chlorella and maca fairly regularly for about two years and now rarely feel sore or tired after exercising (either that day or the next). I don’t know if it’s the chlorella, the maca, or both, but I’m sold on continuing with both.

Sar,
you sound like you have a lot of the same problems that I have. What brand of Chlorella do you use?
Have you found anything that helps a lot with constipation? I really need some help.
Thanks!!

I buy the chlorella from my naturopath. I threw out the label on it but I will be picking some up at the end of this month so I will check to see what it says then. For the tablets they are from Hippocrates however I have recently bought some from Alissa Cohen.
I stay away from nuts and seeds. Sometimes eating a few dates has helped. I drink LOTS of water. I also drink coffee which has helped however I do not recommend drinking it if you don't already. When grapes are in season I always make sure I'm stocked, they help. Spirulina is good too.
Wheatgrass and green/veggie juice. EXERCISE makes a huge difference too. In the winter time warm lemon water worked but I just don't want anything warm anymore now that the weather is getting warmer.
Do not over eat..on anything. Warm baths...
Those are the things I do and know. If there's something you do that I did not mention please share :)

I used chlorella for many months after being raw for a few years. I like the taste and mixed it with green smoothies as well as putting it on my salads. I found it had a bloating/constipating effect for me and did not help with energy. Bummer, because I liked the taste.

TaupeRawMan try to start with a small dosage and work your way up. If you start with to much at at time you can get the problems you descibe, but slowly adding more you stomack will get use to it and have no problems.
Mike Adams (the healthranger) wrote in his little e-book about chlorella and spirulina that if you find chlorella to harsh in the begining start with using spirulina for a while and then ad the chlorella.
Yes Chlorella is great. It is the clorophyl that has the good effect on sore muscles. its alkalising. I have had the same good effect from barlegrass.
Chlorella is also good for people who have a tendency to get constepatet.
Remeber to get chlorella who have broken cell walls otherwise you cant take up the good nutriens in it.

i bought chorlella because i broke a couple mollers which has fillings and am concerned with mercury posion.
however i read one must take like 15 teaspoons of the powder a day for ahwile... i don't have the link handy to share it nor am i sure this is valid info. if i take a heaping teaspoon...just one... i am bouncing enegerticaly all over the place!!! *edit( i swore i'd never take that much again but 1/2 teaspoon)* it also immediatly gives me energy much more potent than a cup of expresso. i can't see myself being able to take more than 3 teaspoons a day at least for a long while if ever.
ginsing is good to do and will give some energy. it's best to take before working out or going for a walk so it can balance it's self. it'll also make your aura widen by 2 feet. but realy shouldn't be taken if you plan to sit or go to sleep.

My bottle of chlorella says to take 5 capsules once a day... i dunno i take mine at night cuz during the day i drink green smoothies and have salads for dinner. I don;t know if it's made a difference in itself, but overall i've been consuming 1-2 bunches of greens every day and that is a night and day difference. I play basketball sporadically and at first it took me 3 days to feel normal again, i was so dead and my muscles were so stiff... now i'm only a little sore the next day and after that fine. I'd say thats a big improvement. Im sure it will get better the cleaner i am. :)

Will give it a go and report back to the group.:p
Although I also ordered today 35 lbs of wheat berries and 5 more trays and soil.....so will be super upping the wheat grass juicing.....
So if I turn into superwoman....will be more difficult to pinpoint causative agent. But if I turn into superwoman....I won't be complaining about that!

I've just bought some chlorella for the first time today, and it's in part because of the endorsements on this forum!
We usually take spirulina tablets, we have about a kilo given to us from a friend who used to import them but that's almost gone so I figured I'd try chlorella.

I've also had similar experience getting that extra energy with it, even though in my case, I wasn't bouncing off the walls. It was, however a noticeable positive difference. My theory on that is that since the chlorophyll chemical make up facilitates oxygen consumption by the cells (according to some of the literature on chlorella), then these could function more efficiently. When I've used it in the past, the brand I got best results from was SunChlorella in the granules form.

I heard that chlorella may block the absorption of B12. I will use it, but I like to do courses of things...use the bottle, and then try something else for a while. I also read that chlorella makes you look very good - shiny hair, bright eyes and creamy skin... It is not 100% given that it blocks B12, but suspected to. I read that in Radical Rejuvenation by Roxy Dillon - a raw food book I read about ten years ago. I've forgotten exactly what source she quoted. I will let you know.

OMG, why didn't any tell me how good chlorella tastes!
I can't stop eating the stuff, I got it in powder form and keep going to the fridge to get a teaspoon full and licking it gradually to savour the taste.
It reminds me of seafood, it's got the same kind of flavour as fish cakes to me. Wonderful!
I've already made a pate with it, and am wondering how my small container will last me!
I'll still use spirulina, but chlorella is my new favourite food.

i'm wondering if i'm taking too much (heaping teaspoon) and/or if caffeine has something to do with it because i read it's bad for digestion to take it before and after caffeine. and usualy i take the chlorella on an empty stomach.

OK - here's the dealio so far, peeps!
Received my chlorella last night, open the package and got scared!!!! For a second, I thought I was looking into a black hole! Like - a total absense of light and I would be sucked in, lol!!!!
Had 1/2 Tablespoon in 8 oz water. Didn't notice much.
Woke up today very tired, had 1 T in the water. I've been dragging all day though. So - Maybe just me, but definitely no bouncing off the walls with energy. About 1/2 my usual workout - just could hardly push myself through it.
I have been 3 days without wheatgrass juice - I have 2 trays going, can't wait to start up on 4 oz a day. I was feeling great this weekend, wonder if the lack of my daily wheat grass is the problem?
Wheatgrass should be ready in 8 days - but I have a 4 day business trip in 10! Ultimate bummer! We have warm weather the next few days - hopefully the grass will mature sooner....UGH. 4 days in a hotel with clients......this will be really rough raw food wise!
I must keep the faith!

My naturopath told me that I will never be able to take too much chlorella that the more the better.
After I take a break from taking it for awhile, that first day I usually feel groggy. I've been told that it's the chlorella cleansing. Its fast working stuff and it's possible to feel even sick after taking it for the first time if you have lots of toxic build up.
I haven't done more than 3 T yet. I think that if I do that I might take it twice a day 1.5 T each time.
Chlorella I thought should be green not black??

it's possiable i am allergic to it. because i get into an immediate high off of it. when i say "bouncng off the walls"... i said entergeticaly bouncin off the walls. not like caffine. my being of energy. however it does give me energy much more than caffine in those aspects.
but i don't feel right on it... it whacks me out quite a bit. challenging to think straight and mind feels adrift... but it has given me some benefits in other areas.
i'm not taking it anymore. it scares me now.
and on another thread a couple people were sayng if anything gives you a high it isn't good for your body. so if you guys don't get a high off of it then maybe you're fine with it.

Welp - today I tried 3 T in 16 oz of water...... a little challenging!
I initially felt rather groggy this am, not much of change with the chlorella. I think I am either really missing my wheat grass, or maybe PMS is affecting me. I have very high mercury exposure - possible it is stirring up that as well. I've heard chlorella helps with mercury removal.
I think 3T will be my limit....according to the package - that's 18 grams of protein and loads of vits anyway.
I'll let you know of any further developments, but I am calling this experiment 'done' - no to the loads of energy from the t-bird camp.
If any others were trying - let's hear your stories!
I'm new to this board but I wanted to post about Chlorella.
I've been taking Chlorella for almost 2 weeks, I got it in pill form & powder form.
I've been dealing with BO so I take Chlorella for the chlorophyll
I take about 16 grams a day, 20 pills & 3 tablespoons. I was backed up for a day earlier this week & woke up cranky.
My bowels are regular for once a go every day and its easy on too.
Hopefully my detox symptoms go away since I'm taking high doses.
I'm hoping to get a job soon so that I can restock when I'm done with my 2 month supply and start eating greener.
I drink more than 64 oz of Tea a day to flush the Chlorella down

I experimented and found that it really does make a difference which brand of chlorella you use. Not just to make sure it's truly raw and organic. But the taste is much different. The ones from the health stores and some online sources are inferior in quality and you can taste it clearly. To me when it's a good quality, it actually tastes very good to either eat alone or mixed with water. Didn't enjoy some of these other ones. Alissa sells the good brand, as well as a few other sources. Has anyone compared the different ones?
I was wondering why some people didn't like the taste and some did. Of course everyone's tastes are different and it also can depend on how long you've been raw for. But it does make the decision to buy the right kind clear, because if it tastes so different, it's likely not the best for your body.

Cathy, I don't know where you're located but if you have access to lambs quarters, this really helps with constipation. It's a weed that grows wild in many places. I got it yesterday from the local farmers market. There's something about it that gets things moving. My friend has been using it in her green tea and her friend who also drinks the tea has had constipation issues since childhood and is now going regularly.
I just tear up the leaves and put it in my salad. It has the same effect on me.

Hey Pixie,
Can you give more details on ridding the system of mercury - if you know more about it?
Thx!
i just study stuff when i take something or what interests me. links can explain it better and relay more info than i can and also back up what i was saying. all can be found in a google with many links.
* i can't take this stuff any more... sigh. but i wonder if it's detox??? i was drinking 10-20 cans of drinks a day for very, very, very many years- aluminum. and i have mercury fillings in some of my teeth.
i know some people recommend various things to take at once or some here and some there for mercury rids. i'm not aware of anyone in my life personaly that has done it, but chlorella seems to always be one of the things to take. i read one doctor insisting to take several things and he isn't charging for his info. it's on the net and i don't have the link.
i can't find the links i read before.. don't know what i typed in the search before. but here's a few.
http://products.mercola.com/chlorella/
http://www.tuberose.com/Chlorella.html
http://www.hbci.com/~wenonah/new/9steps.htm (they say work your way up)
http://www.healingdaily.com/oral-chelation/chlorella-dosage.htm ( basic doses etc and they say there's never too much, but some people disagree and i believe some of that can be answered n the 1st link video, but i happen to feel you can overdose any anything and nothing is healthy to overdo)
opnions vary
these guys say if mercury is found in body to begn with 16 grams a day. this is the first one i've read that advices this.
interesting though.. they speak about iron levels and to be careful on takng large doses of clorella.
and they say this
"NOTE EXTRA NOTE About 25% of people can not tolerate chlorella. This may be due to a cellulase insufficiency: if you are unable to tolerate chlorella, it would be wise to consider adding a digestive enzyme supplement with cellulase in it to help digest the chlorella."
* i wonder what their symptoms are of not being able to tolerate it.

if you've looked at the links i shared you'll notice the vary of opinions and also lack of info in others. some share more indepth with warnings..some share others the other hadn't... while some will say you can take as much as you want... other not...
i undoubtably feel too much is a factor unless temp doing so to rid a disease, but even then i still feel great caution. my intuition and opinion.

here's another and i'm probably going to stop searching now.
http://www.mercola.com/article/mercury/detox_protocol.htm
Dose: One can start out with a one quarter of a teaspoon of the powder (one 500 mg tablet) once a day initially to confirm that there is no hypersensitivity present. Work up slowly over one to two weeks to a dose of one teaspoon (ten tablets or capsules) per day. Once you tolerate this dose you are able to use it to bind the mercury. Use this dose starting two days prior to your chelation and for one day afterwards. The chlorella will thoroughly coat your intestine and bind like a sponge to any mercury that the DMPS liberates into the gut.
*************and check this out about being vegetarian and doing a mercury detox********
It will be important to have a high protein diet as the sulfur bearing amino acids in the protein will greatly facilitate detoxification. Do NOT attempt to fast during DMPS mercury detoxification. If you are a vegetarian you will be at HIGH risk for complications from DMPS unless you have a large amount of protein
nice info my only concern is what my Iron levels could be after 3 months of taking this so i guess I get it checked in August or Sept.
I may have to stop taking my zinc pills in month or two.
Like I said I've been taking Chlorella for 2 weeks around the 16 gram level & my bowels have been green & have started taking magnesium oxide pills that should also help in digestion process.
I also started taking a lite salt adequate potassium supplication as well as sea salt.
I dont know if detox is making me sluggish its been 2 1/2 weeks at 16 grams daily

MsTrish,
Fatigue was my primary complaint for the last several years - and just going raw didn't help, even with about 1/2 my diet being greens, for about 3 months and adding in cardio and weight training for 2 months.....still battling fatigue.
Added in the raw smoothies, tasty - but not a de-fatiguer for me.
Added in the fresh wheat grass juice daily, first thing every morning. Then the smoothie an hour later for breakfast. I noticed a bit of change, took the wheatgrass up to 2 oz each morning, felt pretty ok, took it up to 4 oz daily - and I am loving it!!! (not the juice so much, lol, but how I feel - no fatigue, even around "that time").
Everytime a hit a speedbump - running out of berries to sprout, had to order a part for the juicer, forgot to "put in" the next batch of berries, etc. etc., I'm ok for about 2-3 days, then notice a definite decrease in energy.
Whenever I don't have the juice - I take chlorella in the morning....but it doesn't sustain all day energy like the wheat grass. After day 3-4 I notice I am in a downward pattern. And I was taking 3-4 Tablespoons of the powder.
I try to take the chlorella as a post work out bev for the protein. When I have both each day - it's good!
f I could only have one - with energy as the primary objective, I would take the juice, hands down.
If you are dealing with fatigue issues, get on the wheatgrass juice. If you've never had it before, start with 1/2 oz and up it every 4-5 days - as long as you are not dealing with a lot of nausea or other effects. You'll get used to - but it may take a while.
I want to ramp up production and try to go for 4 oz morning, 4 oz evening. Steve Meyorwitz writes that for a "therapeutic effect" rather than just a nutritional supplement, to go for the 6-12 oz range. He does advise these weirdo "implants" of wheat grass juice. May I be frank in that I'm just not going there??
I only plan to do the mega doses for about 3 months - as a prophylactic against any serious disease I may be harboring, and then tapper down until I feel a difference in overall well being...
I accidentally juiced 5 oz this am. Felt just the teensiest bit squeamish for a short period.....then I just couldn't settle into my chores......I had to get out and run a few miles.
Off to the chores now!
I dont have nearly as much of a raw diet as i would like but I think the Chlorella has made me sluggish lately Ive got a few new pimples lately one on the back of my ear.
im still at about 16 grams so thats constant so I think Im really starting to detox, which is fine because I want to get through the detox stage
does it contain Chlorophyllin
(Chlorophyllin)copper ?

This list of all the things chlorella & spirulina are good for sounds too good to be true..... Does everyone taking this superfood regularly, agree with this list? If so, I'm going out and buying some today.
The astounding health benefits of chlorella and spirulina
What can these two superfoods really do for your health? They offer a stunning array of health benefits. Chlorella and spirulina have been shown to be effective in treating and even reversing the following conditions:
Cancers (all types)
Obesity
Diabetes
Hypoglycemia
Arthritis
Depression
Severe liver damage and liver disorders
Intestinal ulcers
Hemorrhoids
Asthma
High blood pressure
Constipation
Bleeding gums
Infections
Inflammation of joints and tissues
Body odor / breath odor
Various degenerative diseases
Essential fatty acid deficiencies
Mineral deficiencies (magnesium is a common deficiency)
Both chlorella and spirulina are particularly useful for:
People with poor digestion and assimilation (these micro-algae are easy to digest and absorb)
People with poor vitality and anemia
Individuals who consumer large quantities of animal protein (the micro-algae protein, in contrast, is easier to digest and offers a far healthier balance of minerals)
People who eat refined or processed foods
People who take prescription drugs (spirulina protects the kidneys and liver)
People who are overweight or obese
People who engage in physical exercise and / or strength training
People with low energy levels (feeling depleted, exhausted, etc.)

Helpful information regarding chlorella and how this natural food is processed. According to another site, the health benefits or noticeable effects can be cummulative. It is recommended to take it regularly and eventually you will get there, if it's not immediately obvious to you personally. I use when I'm refeeding after a long fast or at other times during travel when I cannot bring all of my "stuff" with me. I'm high energy since childhood and if I take it with my regular raw foods, it's too much for me. Makes me highly wired. We're all different as we already know. I love this food though...I think it's great.

Edit: Oh hey...just noticed the other links. May be repeating this info...didn't read entire thread.

Wow. I just tried the Source Naturals Yaeyama brand. I don't know what else to say except it tastes like I ate the air inside of a zoo elephant exhibit. (You know the inside area you can walk around to watch the animals where they sleep at night?) I think I am going to have to get used to this taste. But if it's good for me, I'll keep at it!

Chlorella taste much better than spirillina
For spirillina, i prefer tablet form instead of powder form

I think I might be one of those people who cannot digest chlorella, as ever time I take it I end up projectile vomiting several times a few hours after (and I never vomit otherwise). I'm kinda sad about this because I want the good benefits of chlorella but i'd rather not get sick :(

I will like to ask, is there such thing as too much spirulina? I've just started and found that it helps to increase my energy - so i've been taking it whenever i feel tired. I am taking about 20 tablets of spirulina 200 gm each day. Is that too much and will there be any side effects? but it does help to increase my energy level which is what I am looking for.
