What can we substitute lucuma powder for?
It's listed in this recipe here for these scrumptious-looking cookies:

Oh my!! Those look delicious. And good question as I have been unable to find lucuma at HFS here too.
Anyone know of a good substitute??

Lucuma is in a class by itself. I think it has a caramel flavor and is a thickener.
For that recipe you could leave it out and it would still be delicious. You could also sub Maca.
ENJOY!

Thanks Rawknitster - I think I will just have to mail order some. Wouldn't want to lose out on a caramel flavour!!

This Ani Phyo video of Lucuma Ice Cream is what sold me on getting it.

I read around here that somebody didn't like it because it was chalky. I don't know. Everybody is different or maybe all Lucuma is not equal. I got mine from Raw Vegan Source. They bag it so there was no brand name on it.
I found out from googling that it is the number one flavor for ice cream in Peru. Who knew?
I just ordered 4 (1#) bags from Matt Monarch's site. He's got them on special right now for $10something - almost half the price I was paying for Nutiva's brand on iHerb.

Lucuma is wonderful, I make a caramel slice using it and also put it in milkshakes and ice creams for a lovely caramel flavour. Yum. I always try and have some in the cupboard.
