Would someone please explain to me the cons of caffeine. I have all of these wonderful flavored teas, unsweetened, that I do not want to disgard.

I use Raw Agave as a sweetner and no diary. Any thoughts?

You get to choose for you what you want and why. Choose powerfully.

Thanks, it is not though I drink it everyday maybe only once or twice a week, so I am not really too concerned. Just trying to consume as much information as possible.

Thanks again

it puts your body into attack and panic thinking it's dying so you get a rush. something like that. i forget the medical terms and body parts.

never heard it put that way pixie...I like that. I use teechino with almond mylk if I feel I want something like coffee. It is in the health food store. It comes in flavors too.It is not raw. Some use it to transition off coffee.

i might try that. since i quit drinking alcohol over 3 months ago i replaced my addiction with coffee. i literaly can drink 60-70 cups a day! i've cut back to about 30 cups. if i'm working i only drink about 10-20. and i drink soda. so if you can only imagine my body......
i haven't gone back to 100% raw yet. dealing with one addiction at a time. smoking will likely stop after i go 100% raw. i remember before i didn't want to smoke or drink then.
oh and tea... tea is lame.lol. i might try it though... i like a few kinds. thanks for sharing the product.

When i took caffeinated coffee (which was long ago) this is what would happen to my body:

- Terrible stomach ache, then acute bm
- Trembling, heart rushing, heavy sweating and hyperactive for about 3 hours
- After 3 hrs i got worried, anxious and cold
- And then i did not sleep the entire night because i was still wide awake, and very anxious (no matter at what time i had the coffee)

And that is not something i want in my body.

Similar things happened with black tea: Hyperactivity, sweating then a "come down" after a few hours with an empty, cold, anxious feeling.

Now i do herbal infusions. No wierd reactions...

pixie, all my cravings went away with green smoothies every day for my first year. Raw balances and cravings leave. Love it. Be well.

I read something similar to what pixie said in Raw Food Real World. Sarma said that the caffeine "rush" was your body reacting to the poison and trying to get rid of it. She then goes on to talk about how caffeine is a natural defense for some kinds of plants against natural predators. I stopped drinking coffee that day, haven't missed it at all. Of course, now I drink massive amounts of black tea....

caffeine isn't good because it helps your body retain water, like sodium. Makes my heart race too, which isn't good. Makes me feel like crap. I try to avoid it like the plague. I am completely off pop ("soda") and only drink one cup of decaf a day and no caffeinated teas.

Thanks for all of the replys, I do not think that it will be much of a problem as I only drink it every once in a while. I just do not want to nor can I afford to waste food and these teas were expensive. I did not think to ask if they were decafe or not and I should have but oh well.

I am greatful that caffeine does not affect me nearly as much as some of you posted it does give me that ruch of energy? but that is about it as I stated I do not drink it enough for it to affect my sleep etc.

But again thank you all for the information.

I still enjoy a good cup of coffee about once a week. My fav is the hawaiian kona coffee. I would have a cup sweetened with lo han kuo on sat morning and then I would end up cleaning the entire house.

i remember reading caffine in plants is for survival. they use it for defense... like pesticides against other plants.

Regarding caffeine, my only problem is that I do NOT like to be addicted to ANYTHING! When I drink coffee, I enjoy it immensely, the process of making it, the smells, the tastes, the social aspects of it. BUT when I decide I DON'T want to drink coffee--- IT HURTS! And it hurts for 3 or more days! Massive, debilitating headaches- HORRIBLE! I just feel instinctively that if something was 'good' for me, it wouldn't make me feel like that in it's attempts to get me to consume more of it. I don't want the coffee to be in control, and it very often has been in my life. I know it's not like a cocaine addiction or anything, but I tend to be a purist and it just screams to me that anything that addictive can NOT be good!

For those who only consume caffeine occasionally, I think that is something different entirely. But for me and my addictive tendencies, I will pass and stick with herbal teas or WATER!

LOL! What exactly is lo han kuo? It is a raw sweetner, I ask because right now I only use Agave so I am always looking for options. I cannot stand the taste of stevia it reminds me of sweet n low.

Lo Han Kuo is a plant derived sweetener like stevia with no calorie and tastes like brown sugar. It's used in China for thousands of years, suppose to help with digestive issues and offer other health benefits. It goes well with coffee and tea. I dunno if it's raw though but it doesn't matter to me cuz i use it in coffee which is not raw. I don't like agave because of the high fructose.
