View Full Version : Day8 of water fast and SOOO HUNGRY

Hi everyone,
I'm on the morning of day 8 of my first water fast (first fast period), and I awoke this morning so incredibly hungry...

I intended to do a 21-day fast, and since I'm new to this, I'm not sure if my hunger is a signal to break my fast, or if I should view it as a challenge to overcome

I keep reading that genuine hunger signals time to end it. I'm struggling with myself right now. I've definitely experienced the mental obsession with food and cravings of all kinds over the past several days, even while being aware that I wasn't actually hungry. This feels different. I have what I used to feel as hunger pains in my stomach, but could this be some cramping that is typical while fasting?

On another note, I have to fly two days from now and the idea of fasting and then spending the whole day in the airport and on a plane is daunting, b/c I've been physically tired through most of this fast.

Is there a compromise that would allow me to continue my fast? I don't have a juicer right now, so fresh juice would be really inconvenient.

Thanks! :)

Maybe you should gently break the fast today. I'm thinking you need to prepare your body for the flight. It will probably make the flight much better and not be stressful to you.

actually most raw foodists (like matt monarch, angela stokes, david wolfe...) fast during flights as they find they don't get jet lag... so i wouldn't break my fast if it were me.

also... true hunger doesn't return that soon. i've done an 84 day fast and i think i may have felt it at the end... but i'm not really sure. melissa did a 152 day fast and never experienced it... so i'm pretty sure it's for extended fasts, not short fasts (less than 2 or 3 months)

i would add some chlorella, wheatgrass shots and/or spirulina to your fast. this will gift you some energy. having tea with some raw honey will gift you some energy as well... both are great alternatives!

congrats on your fast (((hugs)))

Thank you Myca and Aleesha for your replies...:)

In the end, I did decide to break my fast today and I feel great! I felt "disappointed" in myself for about 5 minutes beforehand then went ahead with my decision. I was feeling what I experienced as genuine hunger.

I'm very, very proud of myself and excited to be part of the fasting "scene" now. I learned so much--for example, I didn't realize that you could get beneficial results from so many different schedules of fasting, like alternating days, alternating juice and water, fasting 7 days once a month, 3 days per week, etc. :D

It's all so positive and I look forward to growing on my fasting journey.

Love to all.

Congratulations! Wow, you are way better then me. I have never done a water fast before. I am so happy that you felt the benefit from it already.

Just wondering, are you referring to juice or water fasts of this length? I'm assuming you're referring to juice fasting, but you know what they say about assuming...

juice fasting...

i seldom water fast... (too hard to break properly) and when i do... it's not for long. the longest i've ever gone is 15 days and that during an 84 day juice fast.

normally a water fast for me is a day or two during a juice fast.

Hey all... I intended to do a MC fast... today is day 14. The first 10 days ended up being air and small sips of water. These last 4 were supposed to be MC drinks, I've had a few drinks here and then. At this point, I just don't require liquids and I had one day where I experienced true hunger...but afterwards..none since then. The actual hunger pains that I experienced in the wee hours of the morning were likely the result of the water fast, it is even more intense than the MC fast and brings about cravings or whatever needs to come to the surface a lot sooner than other types of fasts. I drank two cups of an herbal tea along with about 35 ounces of water just so I wouldn't dehydrate. But as always, fasting is always a pleasant journey and there's always enlightenment throughout the experience.

Just saying hello & so that's about it

Thanks, Aleesha...
...I thought that would've been a little long for a water fast, lol!
I actually find water fasting much easier {& far more beneficial!} I've done many, though not for years...some 10 days, many 21 days, & 4 or 5 40 day ones...
Breaking it can be hard...it helps to have a really concrete plan...
I'm actually doing one right now...(yes, with diabetes...checking blood sugars regularily, they've been perfect, & I feel better by the day...on day 5 so far...)

i've read you can water fast for 100 days... although i would LOVE to achieve that... not only for my Self but for my body... what a gift that would be. alas... i'm not nearly good enough at breaking my fasts to do a water fast for that long. it would take a month to break properly!!!

perhaps that's what i'll work at aiming for... an extended water fast... hmmmm....;)

I could be separated from my lovely fruits and veggies for that long - whew!
