hello! I've been posting for a while now and doing this month's raw challenge, but I realized I skipped over this part.
I'm a 21 year old art student in New York City. I grew up mostly in Alpharetta, Georgia and before that Burlington, Vermont, and before that Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Portland Oregon is also a place I call home, as is Great Barrington, a tiny mountain town in Massachusetts where I went to college. I'm currently in that area of time and space where I'm contemplating what to do with my life, and I think I want to keep going to school -- I'm interesting in art history and critical theory, and also in creating my own work. I wouldn't mind staying in academia for the rest of my life.
I've been fluttering around in my diet about as much as I've fluttered around the united states. Ethically I've always wanted to be a vegan, but my Polycystic Ovary Syndrom seemed to get in the way. Polycycstic Ovary Syndrome is a hormonal imbalance and demands a diet that is low in sugar, grains, and carbohydrates in general. It's also not a good idea to eat estrogenic foods, so tofu was out. How can anyone be vegan without tofu and grains?! that was my thinking anyway. So I've been eating meat reluctantly for years because I thought I had to! Then I heard about raw, which is naturally low glycemic and doesn't rely on grains at all and I felt like I had come home. I could eat ethically, and just maybe cure myself in the process. So now I'm experimenting with a raw diet that is high in greens, fatty fruits, nuts and seeds, and salad fruits, and aiming to eat only two sweet fruits a day. So far I feel fantastic and balanced.
I've also been gently suggesting the idea of more raw foods to my parents, who are both plagued by illness and the effects of age. I think they are beginning to hear me. They used to be vegan and in good health, so the idea is not completely foreign to them.
Anyway, that's a little about me and my journey! It's wonderful to be here.
