I know about not eating like 2 hrs before bed , but how about a smoothie? Or raw food in general? Would you advise the same 2 hour rule? I wouldn't think so , but i'm curious  . peace !

I would not advise it on a regular basic. Sometimes you need something to take the edge off. Lying down on any food can interfer with digestion, that's why if I can't talk Myself into waiting until the morning, I just drink water.

Honestly, my rule of thumb is, no food after dark. There are occasions where that must be broken but it's really only happened a couple of times. I just don't like the way I feel in the morning when I eat after dark. Of course, come summer when it's light out until after 9pm I may have to revise that to no food after 7pm. :D

Sleep is for restoration. We rawkin rawbins are all up for healing.
At night, while asleep, all little workers say "hmmmmm what are we going to do tonight?"
They look around and see a whole bunch of work to do, food, to digest.
So they say "ok lets get busy, we will be working all night on this food."
Or they look around, not needed for digestion tonight, so they say "Lets get moving here and do some serious healing."
Sleep and healing can be partners in restoring health. I try to give my body that help and work with it. Energy needs for food are done for the day.
I do however, always try to leave my body in alkaline state(green consumption).
You get to pick what you want to do!!! Your body will tell you, so listening is key!!!! yipeeeee.
If you want to eat at night and it works, do it. "Rules" of raw are yours for the making.

If you're really hungry and haven't eaten, then why not? If that's your biorythm, flow with it.
Try it and see what you feel like. Do what feels right in the moment (by that, of course i do not mean submitting to irrational cravings of SAD foods, or other destructive things, but what you pick up when you tune in to your body's true signals).
There are no rules, there's only you and what you choose to make of the signals you (your body) are sending out.

Yes, though 4 hr min. is more ideal from sleep. If you have to eat after that, keep it very light. Your last meal should be light anyhow. But really do whatever you're able to.

If you are healing your body than I would advise you not to eat close to bedtime because this is when all our bodies are doing heavy cleaning and healing. This way your body isn't digesting, which is very energy intensive, and it's using your sleep cycles for repair. If you must eat say 2 hours before bedtime then blend or juice your food....that is better than whole foods.

I work out or run after work so I'm not home until 7 or later so I eat late. I also get up to eat a fast snack In the night. I'm hungry!! So it works for ME to eat late or whatever.

I think that, if you are REALLY hungry late at night and think you can't make it (asleep) until morning without starving to death (not likely), you should eat some fruit, which digests in 30-60 minutes. That leaves your system free to do "routine maintenance" by the time you drop off. But seriously, is it really necessary to eat late? I happily go to bed hungry, as long as I know that I had enough nourishing food throughout the day to sustain me. Often it's not even hunger but thirst that we feel. Have a couple of sips of water and see, if that's what your body wanted.

I would eat fruit or drink green juice. Keep it light.
I've gone through cycles and used to eat late at night with no digestion problems, as long as it was raw. Now I'm more in tune with my circadian rhthym, generally begin eating after 11am-12pm and before 6pm. I'm not hungry in the evening unless I haven't eaten during the day. Whereas before I ate at all hours, including at night. Eventually you'll get in your own cycle naturally the longer you're at this. I don't see it as a problem drinking the green smoothies if your body is asking for it. Listen to your body. :)

Thanks for posting this. I must have missed the whole "2 hour rule" in Alissas book- this makes SO much sense!!

Like everyone else already said, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY, that is the best way to do this way of eating. We feel different on different days and may or may not do something the same.

I don't think the 2 hour rule is in Alissa's book??? I'm starting to think it applies to the whole diet mentality way of thinking, but I know there are some who'd disagree with me on that. And that's okay. It's all about what works for each of us.

I would have to agree that it is what works for you. I am like Jehote I work and sometimes late and then run after work and eat late, really do not have a choice unless I plan on not eating which I do not want to do. I work with a doctor and I asked him if it mattered if you eat late and he says it does not.
