So, this one's kind of a funny story. My boyfriend is half Italian and he's studying this year in Florence (while I'm stuck in London). I'm leaving tomorrow to visit him for a few days... to study for exams... (though I'm pretty sure everyone can guess what I'm really going for! :p). Anyway, so we're talking today about my visit, and he's going on and on about the restaurants we can go to, the things we can do, etc etc etc, and I'm really happy to hear it all (I figure if I'm not 100% raw there, at least they must have great salads... though every time I've gone before I've been all about the pizza and gelato!). And then our conversation goes something like this:

Him: "... And I can take you to this amazing pizza place; we go there all the time, it's going to be great- oh wait. You're still vegetarian, aren't you?"

Me: (I have told him about raw, but I figure at this point he won't understand it and neither will his Italian friends) "Yes."

Him: "Oh, then I guess it's a Fiorentina for you!" (A fiorentina is a type of vegetarian pizza with like olives and spinach and maybe artichokes and *gasp* eggs sometimes...)

Me: "Umm... I guess. Well, let's talk about this when I get there."

Poor guy, he has no idea what he's in for. I can imagine this being like that scene in My Big Fat Greek Wedding: "What? No meat? Have some mozzarella! No cheese? What? Okay, have a biscotti, grissini, something!"

Anyway, my real question is: does anyone know any good restaurants in Florence with raw options that I could take him to? Or does anyone know of any places with incredible salads, at least? Or a market where I can buy produce? Just the general lowdown on the raw situation there would be good; I've been about a million times but as I said usually the focus was on typical Italian or greasy British fare (boy is still stubbornly English about his bacon sandwiches).

Ciao!!
I am from Venice, and I have not been in Florence for quite a while, so I don't really know places where you can have good salads, but probably it will be easy to find salads everywhere.
You can also try this vegetarian restaurant, but I have never been there and I don't know how it is.

This is a full list of the veg restaurants there and I think that your best options are within this list.
