There is a lady that I work with who is interested in the changes that she's seen in me through raw foods. We've talked a lot about it, I've sent her recipes, quick start tips and pointed her toward Alissa's book. What I'm getting from her is that she wants me to help her put together a strict but simple eating plan. I'm totally up for it but I'd like a little inspiration.

So, my questions for you are; what advice do you give to interested rawbies and what kind of simple recipes would you include in such a menu plan?

And, just so you know, the advice I've already given her is:

*drink nothing but water. You can spice it up with lemon, lime or even raw apple cider vinegar but make sure you get AT LEAST 8 - 8 oz. glasses a day. In fact, I don't eat anything in the morning until I've had at between 16 and 32 ounces of water.

*eat only fruit for breakfast. You can eat as much of it as you want but stick with just fruit.

*make 75% of your food choices raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Raw nuts and seeds can only be found online and at Newark Natural Foods but if you're not aiming for 100% raw vegan you can just substitute unroasted/unsalted nuts and seeds for the really raw ones.

*limit meat to no more than 3 servings a week. If you can do the same with dairy you'll be in REALLY good shape! (because she has no intention of giving up meat and dairy or going 100% raw)

Why not introduce her to Green Smoothies for her breakfast....
+1!!!! Don't fear the green in the green smoothie!
Also, frozen blueberries in every smoothie. I totally believe in this!

I concur with green smoothies and perhaps don't tell her exactly what to eat. Offer suggestions, a menu of items and let her choose from them. Get her in the habit of listening to her own body. Perhaps her body needs greens and avocados for breakfast. We're all different. I think it's great what you're doing and wonderful that your co-worker is interested.

Green smoothies are where I started my raw classes. They are the beginning, the middle and the end of that story...hahaha.

Jehote..my mom just gave me five bags of her organic frozen blueberries. Wooohooo

Will be having lots of them in green smoothies.....well...um...um n yum..um....they are actually purple or brown with blueberries in. But I guess thats the artist in me that likes to mix the colors all together and see what I get.

Contessa- I stopped into the Co-op last night after yoga and on the front board by the door where they advertise things going on they are having a Raw Food talk by Nature on June 14. He is one of the workers at the co-op and extremely fit and knowledgeable. I had no idea he was raw though until I saw the sign. I can't wait. Maybe you can also point her over that way as well.

Pointing her to Alissa's Book and DVD is a Great idea. I would also direct her to this Forum. Its nice of you to help her but I find if someone is really interested, they will Search themselves. She already does not want to make a total commentment.

Shut. Up. Really?
Oh how cool is that!!!!!
I plan on stopping by the co-op this weekend so I'll check out the details. Nevertheless, I'm so there. Maybe we'll get to meet up that day. Speaking of, I never returned your email and I'm SO sorry about that. I will though.

Have you heard of Dhrumil (http://twitter.com/Dhrumil)? I was just reading the other day that he's from Wilmington. I've read stuff by him for awhile now and had NO idea. Small world, eh?!?!

Thanks so much, guys; you rawk!!!

You're right, I should have mentioned smoothies but they totally slipped my mind. I was thinking SUPER simple, like zero prep, and fruit was what seemed easiest to grab for breakfast on the way out the door.

I sent her a list of some of my favorite, simple raw recipes for now. I decided I'm not going to do a menu plan for her unless she comes back after seeing the recipes and begs for it. ;)
