I have been in recovery from anorexia for almost 6 years. My question is, do you think it is safe for me to do a water fast? If so, how long should the fast be for?

Another question: Does fasting ruin your metabolism?

Thanks! Like I said, I have been in recovery for 6 years now. I guess maybe if I do this, I really need to keep my head on straight so it doesn't turn into something else. I could easily see how it could become an addiction. I want to try it but I don't want to get trapped in that ED prison again, you know?

How long do you normally go on a fast? 10 days?

I am not sure about length. It is up to each person. Fasting thread has a ton of info.

Yes see it all in balance so as to not even get anywhere near ED again.

Get clear on what you want. What are you fasting for? To achieve what?
What do you want for your health and your life? Ask all these to yourself and decide how much you want to do.

Being balanced and taking it slow and steady might be a good way for you.

Some do too much too fast and flop. Easy does it.

i had anorexia about 2-3 years ago. i personally dont think fasting can help fighting anorexia coz to break an old bad habit/ addiction, u need to be patient and change your lifestyle gradually. fasting cant teach u to eat right and u cant fast for the rest of your life. i think fasting can help those with compulsive eating disorder/bulimia though because a success fast can suppress their appetite effectively. but to make it a success, of coz, one has to be extremely determined. :):)
