Eat the half that doesn't have the pit, and save the other half that does. Also, squirt some lemon juice on it to keep it from spoiling. Enjoy!

Okay , 1st off get the dates that have been pitted! Never bought one myself with the thing still in there. On the avocado, leave the pit (seed) in the half you are not eating and place in airtight container. The pit keeps it from turning brown, so will the lemon squeeze.

I can't remember if you wanted an avo-idea, but add some pico de gallo to the avo and put it in a portabella mushroom. Yum. Or find Countessa's fajita recipe.

You look at it -- until it spoils! Alright, I'm just kidding. Seriously, I usually make guacamole and smear it on other foods (like salads). I cut the avo in half, discard the pit, scoop the innards into a bowl, and add a splash of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt and cayenne. Some people add onion, others add garlic (minced), but I like mine simple. :)

i LOVE avocados!!!! it doesn't taste like your basic fruit. it's pretty different.

i like to add fresh garlic and tomato to it and wrap it in a cabbage leaf and eat like a burrito. or put slices of it in salads. guacamole is super yummy! can just be eaten like that or use some veggie to dip it in or raw chips. i'm sure there's many recipes here you use avocado with... so if you don't like it then save it to mix with something else i'd suggest.

Oh, that is what happened to mine...lemon juice to prevent spoiling. I was so disappointed when I pulled out my spoiled avacodo.

Eating three a day Eh? Loosing weight?

I have found that often dates that have been pitted have also been heated in some fashion....

All the dates that I have purchased that have been pitted have never been as good as ones with the pits.
I blend 1 avocado with 1 lemon juiced, 1 celery stalk and half a cucumber for my boyfriends salad. Sometimes I add a little coriander. Super simple and pretty yummy. My fav thing to do with avocado is make guacamole or just eat it straight out of the shell.

The best RAW advice I've seen so far...play with your food! You can eat it plain, make a dip, use it like a dip with other veggies, even throw it in your smoothie...

I like to eat avocado and fresh raw asparagus together.
I cut the avo in half and then after I eat the tip of the asparagus I use the stalk as a scoop to dig the avo out of its shell.

i love to eat the date, and suck on the pit for awhile myself. medjool dates are the best of the best IMO.

also, you can take out the pit and pop in an almond and a little raw cocoa paste... now THAT is candy!!!

as for avocado... why eat half? they are too good to save!!!

Been on an avocado and apple cider vinegar kick lately. You can put a dressing, vinegar, lemon juice, etc, in the hole where the pit was and eat right out of the shell with a spoon. If you make a spread with your avo it can work well in lettuce/cabbage/greens wraps for holding all of the other ingredients in. You can even blend (or mash) it up with various liquids and create a tasty soup. In fact, with raw carob or cacao and some dates (with pit removed) you can whip up a yummy chocolate mousse.

I agree that avocados are too good to save! However, just because a cut avocado's color has changed, it doesn't mean it is spoiled. A cut avocado can change color in the fridge in just a few hours. I take a piece of food wrap film and press it onto the surface of the avocado, over and around the pit. The color change is from oxidation, so air tight keeps your avo looking appetizing longer. After wrapping, put it in another container or zip bag.

Dates! Love Medjool dates.. yum! I like to suck on the pit too. I also enjoy replacing the pit with a raw pecan half. Tastes like the best pecan pie you ever had.

Honestly, I don't worry about avocado being fattening. If anything, I make sure that I eat one every day BECAUSE it's high in fat! I find that I need at least 3 meals with fat in them to stay through the day (even though I've been reading this site for ages, I keep falling off the wagon. I'm trying REALLY HARD to stay raw this time!). So every day I put chia seeds in my breakfast smoothie, eat a whole avocado for lunch and have a handful of nuts or seeds after work. Then I'm ok with just fruit for the rest of the time. But I neeeeeed some good fats to stay satisfied!

I like making it into guacamole, with onion, tomatoes, lemon juice and salt. It's also good mashed up with just lemon juice and salt. Hmmm...what else? Chopped up, with fresh corn, tomatoes, cilantro, lemon juice and salt...best salad EVER! I also like it blended with dates and cocoa powder to make a chocolate pudding.

Enjoy!

Combine the other half with a couple of your (pitted!) dates, some cacao powder and a little water or agave depending on how sweet you like things and blend blend blend. Stir in some dried coconut or chunky nut butter as well if you like for a yummy pudding.

This is a very rich pudding, you can make it less rich by belnding in a nice ripe banana as well.

You have to make sure that you are getting a ripe avocado. I am more familiar with the ones with the black skin. When I choose one, it is soft in my hands when I squeeze it. It shouldn't be mush, but it should very easily give under lightly applied pressure from your fingers. Look for the ones with the ripe and ready to eat sticker on them. Also remember that avocado by itself doesn't have a really strong taste so don't be dissapointed when you get a perfect one and all you taste is the creaminess and thats it. That is the way it is supposed to be.

I had avocado with corn cut off the cob and a dash of sea salt. I stirred it into the corn like butter. It was delicious with sliced tomato and raw fried okra!! I also like avocado diced with diced mango, diced tomato, diced onion, cilantro and a little lemon juice and sea salt....perfect this time of year. I hope you have better luck with your next avocado. The trick is to find one not too hard and not too soft. Just a slight give to it. They dont have a lot of flavor but they take the flavor of whatever you add to them. Im thinking of Alissa's lemon pudding right now and I have 1 avocado left :)

And, in the future, if you get a hard avocado (or if that's all they have at the store) just wait a few days. They continue to ripen on your counter and will be perfect when just soft enough to give a little bit when you push into it. Enjoy!

I always buy my avocados hard, they ripen within a few days on the counter. The fat is so good for you, not to worry.
There is a great recipe in Alissa's book called Avocado Chutney...one of my all time favorite recipes.
My fav medjool date candy...replace the pit with a brazil nut..yum!!*s*

I sometimes put an unripe avocado or two in a paper bag with bananas and let them ripen up that way. They ripen a smidge faster than the ones left out on the counter, so you can stagger your must-use-now status.

I find I have to buy my avocados about a week before I want them to ensure that they are ripe. I hope your next one is better.
