Should I be worried about bacteria growth when eating dehydrated foods?

Hi lamazemama!

I think this is a good question.

I imagine one could take simple steps like keeping the trays clean, cleaning out the whole device once in a while, etc.

But I would like to know if bacteria could grow quicker, if present to begin with, in the warmth of the dehydrator?

Anybody know?

Yes, warmth speeds up bacterial growth . . . but it's really a non-issue. Remember that most bacteria are good for us!

What I would be more concerned about is putting ground up flax or hemp seed in the dehydrator, because the warmth and eposure to light/air could cause the delicate omega-3 fats to go rancid very quickly.

Good point.

Hmmm. Trying to decide if I should invest in a dehydrator or not...

Thanks for the feedback!
